Blogging and Joomla and SEO

Services for Real Estate Pros with The Virtual Link

I recently changed my web site over to Joomla (Content Management System).  As a web site designer, this was very hard for me to do and I'm still learning the ins and outs of Joomla on a daily basis.  Deciding to go to a Joomla format was very scary, I'm a designer, not a programmer and it was more than a little intimidating...but I did it!  Here's my site: www.TheVirtualLink.com.

Yesterday I decided to try out an extension for Joomla that displays the titles of your latest blog posts.  It took maybe all of about 10 minutes to set up.  I was floored.

Now, each time I create a new blog here at Active Rain, my site will be updated with the title of that entry.  This is exciting for me because without touching my web site, I'm actually updating the content on the site therefore deeming my site credible and relevant, which basically means that I'm helping my rankings in the search engines when I'm blogging here at Active Rain.

Cool!  :)

Very cool... you actually walk the walk when it comes to VA services. I'm interested though about the duplicate content being posted on your site when you blog on AR... how's that work?

As someone who's studied SEO for a few years now, I thought about this before adding this feature and here's my rationalization on why it won't be considered duplicate content.

Duplicate content refers to multiple web pages that contain the same content - that content being a string of words 10 or 20 or 30 words (or more) running together that are the exact same.

The only thing that is duplicate is the title.  Each blog title is on average 5 or 6 words.  The titles link back to the actual Active Rain blog, so technically it's not duplicate content.

If I used the actual verbiage on my blog post at Active Rain and copied it word for word to my web site - that would be duplicate content...but when someone reads a title that they're interested in reading - they're taken to Active Rain.

I'm not the Google God so believe me, I'll be monitoring this closely over the next few days to weeks - I get spidered almost daily so if I'm wrong on my rationalization above I'll be humbled in about a day or two!  :)  I'm currently #5 for Real Estate Virtual Assistant in Google so I'll monitor the results and let you know!

I use wordpress and I syndicate my rss feed from my groups and AR blog onto my site with the wordpress plugin autoblog. It does capture the whole post though, pictures included...I don't know if you're trying to not do that and truly do just want the titles...if you or anyone else need help with wordpress or webdev, feel free to contact me...that's awesome how your signature has a picture of you in it....how did you do that?
