Is that the Erie Canal?  We were talking about canals last weekend.  I guess because there was a story in the newspaper about canals in Ohio...

Dan, thanks! You have a great day, too!

Maureen, yes, that's the Erie Canal. And the title is the lyrics to a song we all learn as school children in this area. "I have a mule and her name is Sal, 15 miles on the Erie Canal..." :-)

Funny.

I remember the song from grade school.  I grew up in Wisconsin and I don't believe we had canals there but we learned that song.  I was more aware of canals in northeast Ohio and southwest Ohio than I am in Central Ohio, we have one suburb with the name "Canal" in it but it is not an area I am not that familiar with.  The article was about how short a span of history canals as transportation were... I believe.

Maureen, how funny that you learned that song in Wisconsin. I didn't realize it was that universal! It's true about canals being short-lived, though. Around here we have so many communities centered around the canal, because it was so vital to our area around the turn of the century. Now it's just "pretty"!
