Robert Byrd - Civil Rights Advocate or Ku Klux Klan Grand Cyclops?

Senator Robert Byrd - a United States senator for over 50 years died on Monday. He was one of the longest serving senator and the longest serving member of Congress in the history of the United States Congress.

President Obama and Vice President Biden are attending the memorial service today in Virginia to honor this man.

All the press is celebrating this long serving democrat and I am sure he has done much good over 50 years of serving this country.

Having said that, no press coverage of any kind about the 14 hours of filibuster to stop the civil rights act.

I thought democrats were the ones who herald civil rights?

Senator Byrd was also a member of the Ku Klux Klan as a top member with the title of Grand Cyclops?

Sounds very heart warming doesn't it?

I guess the liberal press forgot to mention this in much of their commentaries - not too important -

Or are they trying to hide the fact that the democrats are revisionists of American history.

There was a multi page article in the Washington Post that showed pictures of the filibuster and discussed it along with several mentions of Sen. Byrd's KKK membership. Mr. Byrd was quoted as saying that joining the KKK was the absolute dumbest thing he had ever done in his life. He also went on to support other anti discrimination laws. People make mistakes and they can also change for the better. I don't agree with everything the late Sen. Byrd did but I believe he truly loved the Senate and was an advocate for following the U.S. Constitution.

POTUS and VPOTUS appearances at Byrd's funeral are to COUNTER POTUS' appearance at the miners' memorial where POTUS was shunned by many family members.

KKK does not bother me as most Southern pols of his age were members; however, the Civil Rights Act was ULTIMATELY passed by the GOP Legislature!!!

I'm sure he thought about things differently towards the end of his career. But he really didn't have much choice. Nobody would tolerate someone being an open bigot in Washington after say the 1970s. He is a true poster child for term limits.

Nicholas...another reason for Term-Limits ? Question then would be-- How long is too long---some folks use up all their credits in a few months. Just had to turn off Fox Cable News as POTUS was starting to speak 'in memory of...' It is O.K. though , turned on SYFY where the shows all expand the line between reality & Mystery.as well as deniability & fantasy.
