If you like or are interested in finding out if you like opera, here's a great opportunity to explore without dressing up or spending huge amounts of money on tickets. The Metropolitan Opera Summer Series through Fathom Event (www.fathomevents.com) brings classic Met performances to your local movie theater in HD every Wednesday and Thursday evening. And Fathom does lots more than opera. A great idea!

Those of us in the New Orleans area can catch the series at the Elmwood and Manhattan Blvd. AMC theater complexes, 6:30pm. More info available at the following link:

Hi Troy. I like to read blogs regarding the Arts offerings in different places. Ever heard of our Opera Colony here in Eureka Springs, Arkansas?  Inspiration Point Fine Arts Colony is in it's 60th season. Many of th WORLD's great opera singers have trained here.

No, Charles, I haven't heard of it, but it sounds great. I'm a newbie to Opera, spending most of my college and post-college efforts in musical and non-musical theatre. But after attending a performance of it, I sort of used Carmina Burana as an in-between springboard. I started delving into the classics of opera about 4 years ago. Love it love it love it! I would love to visit Eureka Springs again...it's been ages.

In any case, I think this thing the Fantom Events and AMC Theaters are doing with the Met classic performances are amazing. As a latecomer to all this, how else would I be able to see and hear Fleming and the like perform in New Orleans? Very exciting!

Troy, you're way ahead of me. I'm sort of a wannabe I guess. I attend occasionally and love the concept. I love our over all ARTS community and do everything I can to promote all of it.

Come on back and visit. Eureka Springs used to have a very a strong New Orleans and Key West connection. In those years our season was shorter and many would go south to work the winter tourist season. Now that we have worked to stretch events through the fall we have more of a year round community, fewer of us escape for the winter.

Regards, Chas.
