Blog Topic #7: The Friendships at ActiveRain.

By
Real Estate Technology with ActiveRain
As time goes by it's amazing to see the friendships that develop, and are enhanced here on ActiveRain.  People that wouldn't know each other, or would only be in contact  rarely are able to keep in touch here on a daily basis.  I know for me personally I find it heartening just to observe the friendships of others grow.  I've developed an affinity for many of you, even if I don't talk to you much.

It seems as though, through the blogs, a character is definitely seen.  Perhaps that might be different from an experience in the real world, perhaps that doesn't matter.  If there's one thing I look forward to every day it's that shared experience that I see coming through as members interact.  I see the relationships developing and I can also, through that, see how business relationships can be formed and strengthened.

It's pretty clear to me now that should a client ask for a referral to another professional, I've seen enough through your blogs to know that I can confidently my clients to you.  Points or not it's the personality that comes through in the quality and character of your posts and comments that tells me I'd like to work with you.  It's in how you treat others and how you treat your own work and the tone of your conversations that you put into ActiveRain that helps me see where I might send a referral.

So whether you're utilizing ActiveRain as purely a business tool, or more as a personal tool, I'd like to hear from you about your relationships on ActiveRain.  What's your take?

Please identify your posts with the following tag so as to make them easy to find:

Caleb, I'm glad you posted this...because its true. This network can be used for many purposes, all of which were at the top of my list probably before making friends...not to mention the sheer education from these true professionals!  I consider my AR time, class time, and everyone here my teachers. I have also found some wonderful mentors...you know who you are:)

Plus, I know every fruit there is to know!

Hi Caleb! fantastic reason to think about AR, and in the course of that I realized I have been here about a month now. There are a few people I feel I have known much longer, there are people I feel 'sympatico' with as Angus would say. There are people I want to have as friends and colleagues in my life for as long as I'm around....and this is only after a month!  They do all these studies on students or children and how the ones who are nurtured and get to feel the warm and fuzzies surrounding them are the ones that thrive the fastest.  I feel so safe here and my motivation level is up 200 percent. No joke. So besides the friendships, the networking information is like having lots of personal coaches every day. It can't be beat, or bottled for that matter, so I will stay here and enjoy it.

PS: When the Rain Puddle was down last night some of us were emailing each other because I think we are just used to communicating every day!  Thank you for providing much more than a blog....such a unique blogging network that hopefully will always keep this basic 'template' no matter what other fantastic changes come our AR way.  You guys rock

TLW... Our conversations run in similar circles... "Ooh! That would make a great blog!" I guess we have become BlogEeks. Thanks AR!

I have decided that blogging (on AR) is now a part of my work- schedule. I call it "education" time (on Mondays) and "article writing practice" (on all other days).

Someday I hope to travel around the US on an AR Tour- meeting all the creative-crazy-thoughtful-intelligent-funny people that I befriend here.

I will even bring cookies!

I signed up with AR a few months ago and forgot about it. I recieved a call from Brian Brady inviting me to an open house and he said that he found me on AR. That spiked my interest and AR has become a daily stop in my schedule. Thanks to all of you that post such great advice and comments, you really help a lot! Great platform!

It's a great place to blog for a newbie to blogging - and the interaction - both on blogs and off blog contact helps build networking relationships.

Advanced Access made mention of Active Rain and I joined with skeptism about 2 things, could it help my SEP?  Could it really be a good networking platform?  To my HUGE surprise it has been so much more than that - from Kristal's loving nature and quick wit to TLW and Bryant's exceptional advice - to Rich's just being a gentleman and a nice guy.  I not only look forward to reading and commenting, but I have created friendships that I will cherish forever and look forward to visiting a lot of my AR colleagues in my travels.  Thanks for providing this Phenomenal site.

The first thing in the morning for me is to check to see if any of the people that I have become familiar with on AR have posted a blog for that day yet. I look forward to reading these blogs and many times I have learning form them.

It is also amazing how the priorities change after you have been bloging for a little while. It seems that at first it is about how many points you can get, but soon it changes from quantity to quality, and actually trying to write something that you think others would want to read.

Those involved in designing and maintaining this site have done a great job, and I hope it continues to go in this direction.

I'm using active rain as a business and networking tool.  I've met several interesting characters through active rain and have had a few business calls in the process.  It's a lot of work but fun too.

I was able to make a contact who referred me to someone else in their company who then referred me to yet another ... a meeting was set up, went REAL well and now I expect within a couple weeks, I'll be seeing the first of I hope - many orders.

There are really a lot of different types of people here and I guess we all show a different nature. I hope we all show a good face to the public.

Hi Caleb,

I'm new to the community, but I see so much value in this site.  I've  made friends from regions I didn't know existed and there are several people here who have gone out of their way to be helpful.

I think the long term potential is going to be amazing, and the short term benefit to me as a user has been worth every second I've been logged on.

I would prefer to refer business to people I have a relationship with and have many clients who leave Hawaii to go somewhere else.  I see wonderful potential to place my clients in the capable hands of others when they relocate.

PS What the heck does ROAR mean?

"The Lovely Kelly"

Here is the correct definition of ROAR. It is a brand as Rich said but Rich has probably never read about ROAR and where it came from. Enjoy the post and learn how to ROAR...

TLW "The Lovely Wife" dropped kum la ka lakka...ROAR!

Caleb,

I started on Active Rain on an invite. I had no idea what to expect, but thought it would be a forum of some sort. I had never blogged before and found it quite intimidating. I did see the possibilities of "getting my name out there", though and that gave me the incentive to try it. As AR has evolved, so have I. I will never be the technical blogger that some here are, although I enjoy reading those blogs, nor will I ever be the writer that TLW and BB are, but I get a blog out here and there.

I have met many people here that I otherwise would not have met. And most importantly, I have gotten business directly from people seeing me on Active Rain. I have even had my own words from a blog quoted back to me! So I would have to say this has been a most rewarding experience with just a few exceptions.

I do have one problem though. I dislike the "Rating" system. I do not feel that blogs should be rated when so many people here are new to blogging. The other reason is that it can and has been manipulated by certain people and thats simply not fair!

Other than that, at the risk of repeating all of the above comments. Thankyou for a wonderful and unique site that I believe has enriched many lives.

I have to jump in here to say...I agree with Karen...Manipulation of the rating system by groups of people known as "Professionals" is showing itself once again. If one blogger wants a dashboard it is absolutely amazing what lengths they will put themselves through to get it. When this happens it is not fair to other bloggers new or otherwise. How does one person stand a chance against large groups of people manipulating rates, Hmmm?  As you can see the good ladies in the rain know about this crap...It's that whole good lady thing! TLW...ROAR!
