Services for Real Estate Pros with Rocky Point Schoolhouse

For those of you are unfamiliar with the historic schoolhouse, it's a sparkling gem of a home tucked away in Weatherby Lake. This one room school, built in 1857, stands proudly on Lot #1 of Weatherby Lake - a monument to the importance the prairie pioneer placed on educating their young. Many a rural student was provided years of "readin','ritin', and 'rithmetic" at Rocky Point.

The school continued to operate until WWII until Parkville began bussing children to their school. Purchased in 1950 to be used as a residence, the school came complete with slate boards, a cistern with a water pump, electricity, a big pot bellied stove and an 11 party line telephone. There two bathrooms inside the school – one for boys and one for girls. Over the years, a majestic home has been built around this former one-room schoolhouse and now boasts of 3700 sq. ft. spacious living space.

Visit the schoolhouse on Sunday for the open house and as you drive through each of the different sections of Weatherby Lake, you will get a true sense of "small town America." Frequent community events including weekend sailboat races, Music in the Park, Progressive Dinners, and Holiday Parades give everyone young and old a chance to meet their neighbors. This community has always been popular with families who are looking for an affordable private lake community not only for the reasons listed above, but the drive to downtown Kansas City is within 25 minutes or less for those who commute downtown for work.

DeAnn,

These are often great little buildings, well-constructed and they lend themselves to a good renovation.

I agree, Brian.  I have a genuine appreciation for our older structures that exude such character and rich history.  They are often a fine investment and provide an opportunity to break away from some of the new construction cookie-cutter neighborhoods.
