If the mascot (is this the offical mascot?) for The Night Owls at Active Rain needs a break, this Margaret Place Owl might make a suitable backup, despite the fact that it scared the daylights out of me as I was walking from the house to my office.
I'm used to the squirrels leaping from limb-to-limb and tree-to-tree, but the sound this guy made as he flew to a perch for a bird's eye view of my back yard was a bit startling.
He was less than 20' from me when I pulled out my phone to capture a few pictures. I whispered a request to "stay put" while I went to the office (less than 100' from my back yard) for the video camera. Thankfully, this magnificent creature remained and was content to let me video/observe.
In fact, the owl outlasted me insofar as the photo-shoot. He only moved once during about a 15 minute time period.
Sadly, I was unable to adequately capture the beautiful cardinals who were at a slightly greater distance. If only they were as accommodating as the owl and the Margaret Place Ducks.
Life is good in Lake Charles, even better in Margaret Place Historical District!
