My Broker Is Taking My Money!!!!
I guess I could call him my other Uncle Sam but I have chosen to call him Boss. Yes, he takes a chunk out of every commission check I earn. He doesn't take the endless phone calls, answer the daily 50 questions, he doesn't dissect the home inspection, or find a way to explain to a seller that, well, they DO have a pet odor problem. But he gets a cut nonetheless.
Realtors are master complainers. On most days, we have earned the right to moan and gripe. And let us be honest, who doesn't grumble about their boss or pay? It is the American way.
I have a unique perspective of my broker. Why? Because I have walked in his shoes, not really his shoes but a high heel version. I too was a Broker In Charge. I must say, who on earth would want that job???? If I didn't know him better, I would swear he was just a glutton for punishment.
Yes, he does take my money..a good bit of it. Truth is, I would give him more (but please don't tell him that, I have bills too ya know).
He deals with the fax machine, the scanner, the endless telemarketers, the light bulbs, the plumbing, the ever so fragile internet connectivity, the toilet paper shortage, the quirky coffee pot, and the interpersonal relationship circus we call office. And that is just Mondays.
The rest of the week he walks a tight rope of fairness and folly, seriousness and humor all the while being chained to the office in some way or another.
Again, if I didn't know him better.....
I realize there are Brokers who don't have the "S" tattoo on their chest. Some brokers may not deserve the chunk they take, but for me, that chunk allows me to do my job. Without the petty details of managing an office and the abyss of personnel personalities (or lack thereof), I am able to do what I do best, whatever that may be on any given day.
So yes, My Broker is taking my money...thank goodness.
