Create a "Positive Real Estate Experience"

By
Real Estate Agent with RE/MAX Alliance in Louisville, Colorado

One of my goals as a Realtor is to create a "Positive Real Estate Experience" for my Clients.  I want my Clients to feel good about the transaction we completed. And I want them to also feel good about me as their Realtor and the experience we shared during the process.  That way when time goes by, they have happy and positive memories of the purchase/sale of their home and of me as their Realtor.

Happy

Think back to one of your most recent large purchases like a car, engagement ring, house or even a high-end, expensive restaurant.  Most times if you had a positive experience it was because the salesperson did a good job and made you feel special and at the same time provided you excellent service, advice and counsel during the process.

I remember once my wife and I went to a four star restaurant for a special occasion to celebrate and the experience was not a positive one for us because we did not receive the service and attention we expected.   We did not order a bottle of wine for the two of us so we felt like they were upset with us or something.  The memory of that bad experience is still vivid in my mind and I am disappointed because I wanted to give my wife a special dinner that night and we didn't get it.  And this happened over 10 years ago and I still harbor bad feelings.

A positive example for me is when I bought our engagement ring.  I had no idea whatsoever about diamonds, the process, how much to spend, what my wife would like, etc.  And I knew someone who is a Jeweler and he did a fantastic job helping us and specifically helped my Wife pick out the diamond ring.  He was very patient because my Wife needs time to make decisions.  My Wife and I both enjoyed the process because the Jeweler made it fun for us and provided us the right information we needed in order to make the right choice.

Two situations and two completely different experiences were created by the person providing us the service.  One was negative and unhappy and the other was positive, fun and satisfying.  And the memory of each experience will stay with me for the rest of my life.

So you can imagine when someone buys or sells their house the experience and the memories they have will stay with them forever.  Plus in today's challenging economic climate people will buy/sell a house much less frequently then in the past so the experience they have needs to be positive because their expectations will be so much higher.  My goal is to make sure all my Clients have a "Positive Real Estate Experience" so they will have happy memories of the sale/purchase of their home and at same time have good feelings and memories of me as their Realtor and the time we spent together.

Good Memories

Hi Mario -- Absolutely.  At the end of the line, there is a human being with hopes, dreams, fears and financial constraints, and we need to both have the professional competencies as well as know how to really understand what each client needs, and that is different from client to client: one size does not fit all.

Mario...

Pleasant, positive, productive, and memorable. You want to exceed expectations because that causes people to talk about you to others...and then they talk to others and then......well you get the picture. Keep that phone ringing and singing

Thank you for this pleasnt post

Yes I agree. When it's a positive experience all the way thru, even the "bumps along the way" minimize in significance.

Mario,

This is a great post.

My husband and I have sold 4 homes.  Our agents have been GREAT.

On the other hand, we have run into some buyers' agents who have made life less than desirable.  As a matter of fact, they seem to want to make life miserable for the seller so that you cave on the price.  I get it...I really do.  But, the reputation of being a jerk will be mentioned by the sellers...so buyers' agents...just know that the sellers are watching as well.

keep up the great work!

Hi Mario...So true. Most transactions have a defining moment when you have the opportunity to shine. I try to be proactive with my clients so they know what is coming up through each step of the process.  Many of the clients I have had over the last 18 years started out with someone else as their agent at one time but used me the next time and the time after that.

Absolutely!  Perhaps the largest purchase one will make, and they are rightfully "nervous".  If we can smooth things over, it will be greatly appreciated, and remembered!

Mario - what a simple idea and how hard it is sometimes to deliver this positive feeling and overall impression of something great and bright and worth to remember.

Many sellers and buyers are capable to appreciate our efforts and hard work, even if they do not get as much money as they wanted for their house or something goes wrong in home buying process. To create a positive Real Estate experience is more about the Real Estate agent 's ability to be a leader in the transaction, including emotional leadership. Great post!

Mario, definitely buying a home is stressful enough without the Realtor® making it as smooth as possible. And referrals are so much easier to get!

The home buying process should be as pleasurable as possible. Our job is to accentuate the positive and eliminate the negative. This is, in most cases, the largest purchase our clients make.

The thing about bad experiences is you tend to talk about them to ALOT of people because you are so irritated with that salesperson. I would rather have a customer talk about me positively versus negatively
