Have you ever had one of those days where you felt like you'd been to H--- and back? 

Well, I've been there. And, here it is... it really exists...

Hell in the Cayman Islands

Hell is a series of black limestone formations in West Bay, Grand Cayman in the Cayman Islands.  It is a very interesting place to visit as the formations stretch about the length of half a soccer field.  While we were viewing the rock formations one of the locals told us that many of the formations were well over 4 and 5 feet tall, until the Islands were hit with some of the storms that came through in 2004 and leveled them. What a shame!  It must have really been a sight to see!

There are different stories on how Hell got it's name. Some say that if you throw a rock into the middle of the limestone formations it has an odd echo as if it falling down the peaks and valleys all the way down to Hell.

Another version of the story is that a local official proclaimed one day, that 'this is what hell must look like.'

Hell is a favorite tourist spot as we all stopped to drop postcards to our friends, with the postmark of Hell on them.

Jack, You're so funny.  I guess you do know where to go when someone tells you where to go now. I never thought about it like that!  Head out for a vacation to Hell in the Cayman Islands.  The Islands are really very beautiful!

Mel and Gretchen, Well it's funny because in the morning we had pouring rain.  We asked our tour guide how often it rained on the Island and he said hardly ever.  So when we arrived in Hell we had to get out with umbrellas. But after mailing postcards and a buying a couple of fun shirts, the rain let up and we were able to head straight back to hell. It was about 80 degrees then.  But I imagine it's usually more like the high 90's at that time of year.

That is really interesting, Sandy!  Can you imagine trying to walk through those limstone formations in bare feet or sandals?  That would be heck!  Was there a Heaven on the island?

I remember visiting Hell, Michigan when I was young in the winter and my dad bought us "I was in Hell when it froze over" t-shirts. They had great promotional items. Hilarious.

Hi Bruce, No, I would never attempt to walk through there with no shoes on - ouch, now that would be H---, ahhh, got it, maybe that's how it got it's name!  Very smart of you!  Yes, there was a heaven on this island, The views of the water on this island was breathtaking, unfortunately it was raining in heaven and my pictures didn't come out very well. The locals told us that it never rains there, EVER.  Go figure.

Randy, I didn't know there was a Hell, Michigan.  I bet they had some great souveniers.  Did you know that there is a Christmas Florida? People mail their Christmas cards from there.

Hi John, We didn't swim with the stingrays or the dolphin.  But that's a real neat way to spend the day down there. We went to the place where people were doing it. It's amazing! Have you ever done it?

Gabe, That's hysterical, that your friend told you he knew you'd get there one day-ouch!  Weren't the islands pretty? The water was crystal clear - so gorgeous.

Kevin, I figured as much. With all of the traveling you do, I thought you would have probably gone to the Cayman Islands before.

Myrl, Oh, that's a great idea, too. I bet that could be the case!

I've been to Hell Norway and thought it would be a lot warmer. These pictures appear to be closer to the Brochures you see in church =)
