Hollywood, CA - Hollywood Homes for sale can be in many varied markets. From Hollywood Lofts to short sales, bank owned reo foreclosures to regular equity sales... but there's one thing that continues to be true for here... and I bet... there (as in anywhere in the United States) as well.
Running into English as a Second Language. It's particularly challenging to build rapport and trust when one is dealing with a sales relationship. Even more so when the other party is struggling to understand exactly what I'm saying.
I've heard it said in NLP - Neuro Linguistic Programming - training that communication is "the response that I get". Understanding that the truth lies (don't you love that ambiguity?) somewhere in the gray area of that truism.
Luckily I've had clients who straight up tell me "I've only English for two years. Please say again." And with that willingness comes a great opportunity for me to be precise and clear, and to say something again in a way that it will be understood.
My question is, if we're not getting the results we would like, whether with someone who is ESL or not, are we being understood, are we communicating in a way that THEY will like and feel comfortable with?
Too often in my own life I will respond affirmatively to something that I have no idea of... half listening and auto pilot "sure" "you bet" and the ever knowable (admit it - you know it's you and true) "yes dear" or "yes honey".
Wouldn't it be fair to say that many of our clients might respond affirmatively to things we say without full understanding?
When we approach a client they are filtering everything we say from their perspective, every cumulative experience goes into how they hear what we say.
If only they could look into my heart and know that I would only ever treat them with respect and truth, that I would truly work only to find them the home that makes them happy, that I would fight tooth and nail to make sure that they are not taken advantage of by anyone of a dozen processes and hoops they must jump through to see the transaction to its' conclusion.
But it's never that simple, is it?
The one question that I'd like to share I've heard asked many times and somehow always sounds fresh...
"What's important about that to you?"
Gets to the heart of the matter, no?
I just wanted to say thanks to my client for reaching into the understanding bin and pulling out the "help me" card. Sometimes working through the understanding barriers has its' rewards.
Just a thought for the day.
