ABCs of Home Building
Thinking of remodeling or building your own home? These two evenings will give you thorough overview of the entire home building process from concept and budgeting through design, construction, and working with a contractor. This will help you to avoid common pitfalls and reduce stress, as you develop your action plan.
Fee includes a 1 hour individual consultation (an $85 value!). Taught by Julia Harkola, licensed civil engineer, PhD Construction Management from Stanford, certified green building professional, and local home builder.

Session 1 on 9/27: Property evaluation, design development, conceptual estimating, green building principles
Session 2 on 10/4: documents, finish specifications, budgeting, permits, contractor selection, construction management

I live and breathe construction. Really. I'm a registered civil engineer and have a PhD from Stanford in Construction Management. My husband and I manage a residential construction company AND we're in the midst of a multi-phase remodel of our own home.

Several years ago I noticed that many of the initial visits that I made to confer with homeowners were with women who wanted to improve their homes, but they were afraid. Afraid of making the wrong (and expensive!) mistakes and afraid of being ripped off by contractors. I figured that I could create and present a comprehensive review of the construction process to help people (men, too!) avoid many of the pitfalls that give construction such a bad name.
