Cleveland Home Buyer Tip - Reading Radon Results

By

If you are thinking of purchasing a home in Greater Cleveland, Ohio, here is a home buyer tip for you:  Know how to read the radon results.

Here is an article I found helpful when reading the results that are produced from a continuous-type monitor.

Here is a resource from the Federal EPA titled: Consumer's Guide to Radon Reduction.

There is no sense in duplicating this last link, so go off and read it and you will understand why your agent recommends getting a radon inspection.

Take a look at map of Ohio by county with general radon levels (not to be relied upon, a test is the only accurate means for a specific home).  See what the colors on this map means.

Good article on the radon readout. Many of my clients just want to know "did it get a high reading?" But there are quite a few who really want to dig into the data.

This is an Ohio post. Michigan borders on the north. There is a belt of higher predicted average indoor radon screening levels on the Michigan-Ohio border (> 4.0 pCi/L). Here is the EPA Radon map for Michigan.

Hi Jason -- Wow, 3000!  I wonder if the area tested was finished and used by the inhabitants.  That would make for an interesting case study.

Chris, this post caught my eye because I've had a lot of clients requesting the radon test lately and with good reason.  Many areas of Alabama have radon problems I've also included the EPA's radon map for Alabama should you want to check it out...I don't know if we have anything as high as the one Jason posted...I hope not.

Hi Nick -- Thanks for sharing.  I've only seen readings as high as 8.
