How to blog effectively

I hope everyone is having a great weekend! I know mine has been wonderful!

Today I want to talk a little bit about blogging and how it can be helpful if you do it effectively. Each time you create a blog entry it's just like you were creating another web page out there. Which means more chances for you to be shown in web results, more chances someone will stumble upon your page and more chances you will get leads!!

The important parts of an effective blog are:

Content and Keywords - If you create blog that people want to read then people will keep coming back. Find out who your audience is and what they want to know. Then blog about it. Blogs should be educational, informative and easy to read. Your keyword density should be 2-4% You don't have to be a great writer to create a great blog. Share articles that your audience would enjoy - just give credit where credit is due. Write a short paragraph about what the article means to you - get on a personal level with your audience.

Links - this is your chance to create links back to your personal website. Title the link as your keyword and link it back to the relevant page of your website. This will make your ranking in google higher and create self promotion for your website without having to write a blog about yourself, your services or your listings.

Title: The title of your blog should be catchy, short and to the point. Think about what gets you to click on a link and go from there. Don't be misleading.

Images: These can be helpful in a long blog or when it's easier to show something than explain it. It gives the reader something to look at besides words. Name your images with your keywords so they will come up in Google Image search results thus leading more traffic to your blog.

Comments: It's always important to allow comments on your blogs AND to comment back to people that have something to say on your blog. It shows them you are a real person and that you take interest in their comments and thoughts.

Once you have created your blog then share it with the world. If you are a Rain Maker you can create public blogs which allow you to post the link on other sites such as Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn. Take advantage of this - the more exposure the better!

If you have any questions or comments please feel free to post them here or contact me. I'm always willing to help!

I'm with Vickie on the images. I try to include one or two pictures in every post I do, even if it's a short one.  My biggest problem is coming up with topics to write about that I think people will be interested in reading.

Vickie - Thank you!

Jenny - Here are some ideas for topics for you:

showcase an event that's coming up in an area you want to market to

look up your cities, counties and/or neighborhoods on Facebook fan pages - like the pages that pertain to you and watch the posts for things you can share on your blog - events, news, etc.

team up with a local business and ask them if you can showcase them - I'm sure they won't mind! Free advertising for them.

Market statistics but keep them user friendly - easy for your reader to understand.

Ideas for staging a home or low cost minor repairs that you can make to give a big return

FSBO advice - they might thank you enough to end up listing the home with your or at least referring you clients

What the local attractions are - and maybe a short review of some of them

New businesses or neighborhoods coming to the area

Swimming pool safety, natural disaster preparedness, or something along those lines that would be popular in your area

How to save on energy costs, be more green, or any other money saving tips

These types of topics are interesting to almost everyone and you never know where your next client or referral will come from! Maybe my next blog will be Blog Topic ideas - thank you for the inspiration and I hope at least one of these helps out!

Thanks for the feedback!
