Is It A Dreaded Disease?

The cute little red cabin sits perched on it's old post and pillar foundation.  Her bones may be old but she sits proud overlooking the river that twists and turns about 30 to 40 yards from her covered back porch.

The birds chirp, a squirrel scampers up a nearby tree.  The sound of the river is calming.  She shows her age but there is a quiet easy feeling that comes over one in her presence.

She's been alone for over a year now.  Long gone are the days of family get together picnics, horse shoe games and badminton nets set up on the side yard. She misses the crackling bonfires on the rivers beach with marshmallow goo dropping onto the rocks.  The laughter and play, the smell of breakfast cooking in the outdoors.  Another summer has gone by and winter is soon approaching.

She isn't worried about winter.  She loves the snow capped river rock and branches overhead. The stillness in the air and the visiting deer leaving their track in her yard.

She will miss the warm cozy fires in the pot belly stove that heat up her bones. Spring will follow with the crocus pushing their heads through the snow and perhaps her new family will arrive before then.

Oh how she longs for that day.

She was surprised when the for sale sign was planted at the driveway. There were no signals from her family that they had no interest in staying.

Yes, she has had visitors in the past 12 months.  There is evidence of that even today.  A bottle cap sits on the deck just beneath the rocking chair along with a unopened bottle of beer, where someone sat to take in the refreshing sounds of the forest and a thirst quenching drink on her lap.  Could this have been her new family?

Her family was here at the beginning of the summer and swept up the branches that cluttered her front porch.  They moved the dog kennel out and the furniture that occupied her rooms.  It made her feel a bit chilly at the time.  She has been poked and prodded and purged a few times and a sold sign was placed on her twice!

What's taking so long for her new family to come?  She has heard the word "short sale" mentioned more than a couple of times.  It doesn't sound like anything good.  She wonders if it is some kind of dreaded disease?

Is it the bureaucracy and greed of the powers that be?

It's raining today.  Are those rain drops streaming down her windows?  Or is it a tear running from the eyes of a cute old river cabin?
