Do you, like me, have a Discover Business Card that you use regularly for office supplies and to conveniently pay vendors who don't take credit cards? Shred it! Instead, find a company that will support you at all times, with business advice, credit lines and resources that willl help you succeed.
Discover found out I was going through a divorce and they reduced my limit down to a crippling amount. I was counting on my Discover Business Card to get me through this Divorce. They had zero sympathy for my position and they actually had the nerve to say it was because of my credit score. Do you mean my 792 credit score? She cautioned me that it would drop as much as 5 points if I cancelled my card. I told her that was an empty threat as I work in the credit industry and I disagreed this was going to have a disabling effect on my score. Then she said it was because I didn't have enough open accounts. Really?! I don't carry a lot of credit because I am a conservative businessman. That's what makes me a good business risk. She pointed out I had one late. I asked her to notice the one late payment was at the same time I took my ex off the account and it was settled immediately. The account rep at that time was so helpful and sympathetic that they waived the late fee because of my excellent credit history with the company.
Discover Business Cards should say "Our Business" not imply it is for your business.
I cancelled my card. I'm a character man and they are not part of my business team if they are going to do something like this to me when I need them the most.
They were happy to take my money when I spent thousands of dollars at Staples, Office Depot, Dell and other stores for my business. They happily let me pay my balance off, in full, every month and increased my limit because I was such a "good customer". Now they are warning me that I will have to re-apply if I ever want an account again. Yeah, that will happen.
I'm writing this so that my friends on Active Rain know that Discover is not a card they can depend on. I hope the comments field is filled with people who reblogged this and said they shredded their Discover card.
That's what I am going to do right now. If I had the time, I would videotape the shredding, but I have work to do today so I can only devote so much time to this. I look forward to the possiblity of this going viral. I look forward to Discover explaining why they abandoned a successful, credit-worthy businessman when he needed them the most!
Weigh in, good or bad. I can tell you that two weeks ago I would have sung the praises of Discover. They were a key element to the success of my business. I'll find another key element today and tell you who they are. I have several other credit cards with zero balances on them that I can move my business to. Do you have a Discover Business Card?
