Do You Have A Discover Business Card?

By
Real Estate Broker/Owner with Vic Steele, Broker CA DRE 01349863 CA BRE 01349863

Do you, like me, have a Discover Business Card that you use regularly for office supplies and to conveniently pay vendors who don't take credit cards?  Shred it!  Instead, find a company that will support you at all times, with business advice, credit lines and resources that willl help you succeed.

Discover found out I was going through a divorce and they reduced my limit down to a crippling amount.  I was counting on my Discover Business Card to get me through this Divorce.  They had zero sympathy for my position and they actually had the nerve to say it was because of my credit score.  Do you mean my 792 credit score?  She cautioned me that it would drop as much as 5 points if I cancelled my card.  I told her that was an empty threat as I work in the credit industry and I disagreed this was going to have a disabling effect on my score.  Then she said it was because I didn't have enough open accounts.  Really?!  I don't carry a lot of credit because I am a conservative businessman.  That's what makes me a good business risk.  She pointed out I had one late.  I asked her to notice the one late payment was at the same time I took my ex off the account and it was settled immediately.  The account rep at that time was so helpful and sympathetic that they waived the late fee because of my excellent credit history with the company.

Discover Business Cards should say "Our Business" not imply it is for your business.Valet Real Estate Services

I cancelled my card.  I'm a character man and they are not part of my business team if they are going to do something like this to me when I need them the most.

They were happy to take my money when I spent thousands of dollars at Staples, Office Depot, Dell and other stores for my business.  They happily let me pay my balance off, in full, every month and increased my limit because I was such a "good customer".  Now they are warning me that I will have to re-apply if I ever want an account again.  Yeah, that will happen.

I'm writing this so that my friends on Active Rain know that Discover is not a card they can depend on.  I hope the comments field is filled with people who reblogged this and said they shredded their Discover card.

That's what I am going to do right now.  If I had the time, I would videotape the shredding, but I have work to do today so I can only devote so much time to this.  I look forward to the possiblity of this going viral.  I look forward to Discover explaining why they abandoned a successful, credit-worthy businessman when he needed them the most!

Weigh in, good or bad.  I can tell you that two weeks ago I would have sung the praises of Discover.  They were a key element to the success of my business.  I'll find another key element today and tell you who they are.  I have several other credit cards with zero balances on them that I can move my business to.  Do you have a Discover Business Card?

Vic, this is not unique to Discover.  All credit card companies are cutting credit lines as well as finding ways to add new fees.   The recession, the economy and new credit card laws have changed the whole concept of credit cards and it's the card holders that are stuck in the middle.

Hey 'cousin' Vic...I have a Discover card and they keep lowering my limit also...It's now less than a 3rd of where it started...Had similar conversations with 'Customer Service'...Chase did the same thing with my other card I use for business...I have never been late making a payment either...They just don't want to hear it...Hope you're well...Enjoy the day.

Once again big business screwing the little guy.  We do the right thing day in and day out and soon as they are pinched by the government because they are no longer allowed to charge loan shark interest rates they tack on ridiculous fees and tell you you are a bad customer.  Good luck Vic.  We shredded our card a long time ago.

I deleted the first two posts because they were blank.  One said "Linda"  the other was blank.  Not sure what happened there, but I figured you'd rather not see them.  That's why the  numbers are off on this.

I explained what had happened to CitiBank Visa and got no love at all.  I called AmEx and they increased my credit line almost double!!!!  Problem solved!  Thank you American Express!  I've been a loyal customer for years and will remain that way for many more years to come!

I do have a Discover business card that I keep in my desk drawer. $0 balance, no transactions in the past 9 months. Discover is in their own world...

I know someone that was one month late on their mortgage and their credit card cut their limit by half. I am wondering if it was a Discover card. I don't have one. We don't use our cards, but do have them as a safety net.

I use mine and pay them off, every month.  Michael and Lindsay, when you call Discover don't be surprised they have cut your limit!

Discover sucks! Since I have been going through the issues with my second trust deed with B of Ass's they cut my limit from $20,000 to $500 after I paid them totally off!!!! I don't look at credit cards the same anymore, the only one that has stuck by me is my Gold Amex!!! Yes, I have found if you call any of the credit card companies about anything they will cut your limit or raise the interest rate! I have always had excellent credit with all of them and have never been late once but yet they have found a way to punish me from my battle with B of A!!!

Yes, I HAD a Discover many years. Not sure what happened but I do remember I had it out with them and paid off the balance.  I would never have one again.

I agree completely Tiffany!  I manage the card and my finances carefully, pay it off every month and depend on them to get me through a down time.  BAM!  They cut my limit.  Thanks for the reciprocity!!!!

Beware their beguiling offers Nyssa.  They lured me in and I cancelled my Visa.  Look where I am now!

Your memory serves you well Debbie, you remember what you have to; they let you down - you canceled the card.
