For those who don't know what PAC stands for?, it is the Parent's Advisory Committee. I attended the first meeting this new school year 2007 at Rancho Pico Junior High. Principal Dave Lebarron was on hand as well as Barb Sellers. The room was packed with over 70+ parents in attendance. I think that's incredible and is one BIG reason why we have such great schools in Santa Clarita. It fits right in line with the school theme "Building a culture of excellence"
Barb Sellers introduced various school officials and volunteers in attendance and asked a couple of students to share with parents their experiences at the school. This Q & A session gave us parents some insight of school life thru these students eyes.
Barb Sellers then shared the "upcoming events" they had in store for our students. One event was the school assembly or pep rally featuring a local band the theme being "Rock on Rancho Pico" to help students assimilate and socialize. Another event is the "Air Guitar contest" Little did Barb know that I was a mean Air Guitarist in my day!!
Barb then sported a leis and shared one of the student themes for the year "put on your leis and catch a wave" part of a fundraising campaign for the school. She shared the fact that the school has over 50 volunteers to help out throughout the school year which was an impressive number!
Barb spoke about "Code Blue" which was a first aid event being held Sept 21 for teachers and parents as well. She also shared her purple bracelet and her efforts to stop complaining by wearing it as a reminder. I know a few people myself included that need to wear this bracelot!! For more info go to http://www.acomplaintfreeworld.org/ She finished her segment sharing a touching story about how she assisted a new student who had just moved from out of state and assisted her in making her first day at school a memorable one. "That is what this is all about" for her. (Ask her to share this story with you it's a good one)
Principal Lebarron wrapped up the evening with a Q and A session with parents giving us an update for the gym completion for mid October? This is all dependant on the flooring in the gym which takes a month to settle into place. He also addressed other school related concerns voiced by parents and related updates.
Overall the meeting was informative and gave us parents a great overview of the activities they have in store for our students in Rancho Pico. The next meeting is slated for Sept 18 at 12:00 P.M. See you there.
