The 3 L's of House Hunting

If you are searching for a house you have probably heard that location, location, location is everything.  I believe that while location is important there are 2 other L's that play an equally important role.  These are: Lot Size and Layout, and will be discussed briefly below, along with the first L, location.

  1. Location - This should be one of the first criterion for your search.  Now, location can mean different things to different people.  Whether you are looking for a short commute time, good schools, or just a great neighborhood, location is one of the first steps to house hunting.
  2. Lot Size - You may be able to find the perfect house with the perfect school for your kids, but if the lot is too small, or is on a busy corner, then it will be hard to justify purchasing the home.
  3. Layout - Layout is important because it cannot be changed easily.  Make sure to pay close attention to whether the kitchen, bedrooms, and general floorplan are laid out in a way that is condusive to your lifestyle. Without the proper floorplan, you will find yourself second guessing your purchase after it is too late.

Hope this helps when you begin your house hunting, and thanks for stopping by!
