Great tips by Christine Gay - There's a few great ways to save energy and money in your home.  There's always something new to learn about saving money and energy in our homes.  I thought this was worth reblogging for all those savers out there.

Tips on saving energy and money in your home

 Home Appliances: Washer

  • Turn your refrigerator down. Refrigerators accounts for about 20% of household      electricity use. Set your fridge at about 37 degrees and your freezer at 3 degrees. You can find a thermometer at most hardware stores.
  • Set your washer to cold or warm. Using a good laundry detergent make a world of difference
  • Run your dishwasher only when it is full. Use the energy saving setting and allow it to air dry.
  • Turn down your water heater thermostat to 120 degrees
  •   If it is time to upgrade or to replace look for the appliances with the e energy star logo ( some appliances offer a rebate) check http://www.energystar.gov/ website for information

    Energy Saving

Home heating and cooling

  • Be careful to not overheat or over cool you home. In winter set your thermostat at 68 degree s during the daytime and 55 degrees at night. In summer keep the thermostat around 78 degrees
  • Clean or replace your air filters as recommended

Small homes improvement Energy Saving bulb

  • When replacing light bulbs, replace them with compact fluorescent bulbs. They cost more initially but will save you money in the long run.
  • Wrap your water heater in a insulated jacket. Cost $10 to $20.
  • Install Low flow shower heads. You will save hot water and the cost is minimal.
  • Weatherize your home using caulk and weather stripping to plug air leaks.
