What Active Rain had done for me so far.

By
Real Estate Agent

I'm not a Blogging star, I may never get a 100,000 points. I've never had a featured post. I'm not high tech, none of this comes naturally to me. I'm not a frustrated author, I don't really like to write all that much. So why do I plug away here on Active Rain? Just one word, RESULTS.

Way before I was a Realtor, I had a woodworking business. I lived in the back woods of western Maine and made wooden salad bowls. I had to travel long distances to sell them or give up 50% of my money to a gallery. Then in the dark ages of the Internet, circa 1998 or so I saw a fellow woodworker with a web site. I thought wow, I should get one too. I recently discoved that my old web site is still archived on-line. Well I was on page one of every search engine until I had to quit in 1994 and moved to Ocala Florida. I was on-line before Google. Now that was a some what obscure little niche but I had it mostly to myself and got around 15,000 hits a year. I was spoiled.

Last fall I decided to build a semi custom web site, OcalaHouseHunter.com, by the same person who built my woodworking site. This time there were thousands of people already here before me. I tried to get my site noticed. I looked for other Realtors in hopes of getting links. I never did get more than a dozen and I don't think most of them link back.

Then in January of this year I stumbled upon Active Rain. I started blogging and linking back to my web site. When Localism came along I did my best to post images of my town, Ocala and write some Localism blogs.

Now, a short eight months later, my web site can be found. I've risen to the bottom of page 3 on Google under the search, Ocala real estate and I'm climbing. I am now number one for my city of Ocala Florida and my profile seems to come up every where, under all sorts of searches. I get click troughs from localism to my web site almost every day.

  • The point here is that real estate blogging is worth the time.
  • There is no better way to get noticed on-line than Active Rain.
  • There is no better way to improve your web site ranking than linking from Active Rain.
  • Blogging does bring business, it's not a hobby.
  • To date I've got 4 listings from people who have found me on-line.
  • You don't have to be a techy type.
  • You don't even have to have much writing talent.
  • You just have to keep working at your blog and results will come.

I write this so other people like myself, the average Joe on Active Rain, can see that plugging away will yield results. You can get yourself found on the web by doing little else than blogging on Active Rain.

There is no lower cost of sales than a web site or blog that can be found by a search.

Joe, some one I can relate to. I found active rain and joined for thos esame reasons. I too recognize I am no superstar blogger and also have never had a featured post (Maybe I will flag this one to be featured) I do see the benefits though. I have gone from unseen on google to the top four pages in each of the areas I work. Thanks ActiveRain!

Hello Stephen

My fear is that as blogging on AR gets more & more sophisticated those of us who are technologically challenged  won't join in & that would be a shame as there is so much to be gained here.

Hi Joe,

Most of us are not blogging super stars, we just do it "my way".  The points come pretty quickly if you blog and comment consistently.  Some say points are not important, I agree points are not the most important aspect of AR but there is value is having points.

Keep at it, guy --good things happen.

Hi Joe,

I like your post. I have been here only a month and it's been a great experience. I won't ever be a blogging star either but I DID get my first lead from AR yesterday. Yaah! I'm getting in good positions with google and starting to see traffic in general. But mostly I'm just learning a bunch and making friends from all over.

I've never been to Maine but would love to. I have a good friend from western Maine. I can't remember the town. Florida is quite a change! How is it down there? Can I add you as an associate?

Joe, I agree it would be a shame to miss out on knowledgeable people because of technology. I have found Active Rain to be pretty easy to use. By reading the technology nuts on-line here I have learned quite a bit too..

Hi Cynthia

Thanks for your comment & you're right we do need points for more exposure.

Scott

I'm no expert. I did visit your site and I think you loose people by making them sign up to use the MLS for instance. A lot of people disagree but I want visitors to stay around as long as possible & I'm sure someone else will let them surf the MLS without any contact info. Just my thoughts.

Hi Vicki

Please do add me as an associate. You never know when we could do business. It's great you've had a contact already. Yes it is quite a change from Maine to Florida. It's like eternal summer down here. I really like it.

Hello Stephen

There is a lot to learn here. I've learned more stuff from AR than from some classes I've attended.

Joe,

I never realized how important blogging was. My site has never ranked because it is not very SEO friendly, but my blogs do and they have links to my website!

Hi Dan

My web site is SEO friendly but I wasn't getting anywhere until I stated linking to it from AR

I will admit my Active Rain profile generally comes up first
