10 reasons why you should not buy an iphone 4

By
Real Estate Agent with LA Pocket Listings

I purchased an iPhone 4 on its release date, coincidentally i had lost my blackberry the day before or trust me i wouldn't have cheated on Paulina (that's what i call my blackberry, we go way back).

It was by far the WORSE mistake of my life.  ( maybe not the worst, but you get the point ) I returned it within two weeks.

WHY YOU SHOULD NOT BUY AN iPHONE 4iphone 4 article

1. There is no way to mark all your emails as read. This means that if you are the type that receives a lot of emails, you will have to open each email and then close it to mark it as read. There is no mark all as read feature. ( i dont ppersonally have time to open and close hundreds of emails daily)

2. You cant attach anything other than photos. There is no way to load a pdf and attach it to a email. You can forward them but that's it. There may be apps you can download or purchase for this but it is not stock on the phone.

3. Emails are not pushed, you must set the interval time to check emails or physically open up the email application. I cant tell you how many emails i recieved hours late.

4. Antennae issue, you have to put a case on the phone or else suffer poor reception if your finger ever covers the Antennae  which is located on the outside of the phone. - This has nothing to do with overall reception, but rather the way you hold the phone. If you hold it incorrectly you could lose reception and drop calls.

In addition, blue tooth conectivity issues have been reported also. My personal experience confirmed this because my phone could never keep its bluetooth connection to my car for longer than 10 minutes.

5. no file manager, you can only store photos and music.- there may be apps you can download or purchase for this but it is not stock on the phone.

6. Horrible sound quality, this phone was made with media in mind not phone functionality or business use.

7. Limited multi tasking. Do not believe their marketing. Multi tasking was still limited and only worked with select programs. They are late to the multi tasking game and it showed with this device.

8. Video ....this only works over a wifi connection, which means you pretty much need to be in a house or similar location where you would probably have access to a computer with a web cam rendering the video function pretty useless. Oh an you can only video conference with another iphone 4, not with another pc etc.

9. Limited copy and paste features. First off it is awkward to copy and paste on the touch screen. Secondly you cannot copy and paste in all applications. It is limited in text messaging and a few other areas.

10. Its great for viewing videos, surfing the web and playing. If you want your phone for business, then why would this matter more than the practical every day features to you? For a more in depth comparison of iphone and blackbery read my published article here click here

So what phone is BEST? I cant speak for all phones since my experience is limited to nokia, blackberry and apple.

BUT i love my blackberry Torch and heres why?

blackberry torch

1. Mark all as read feature!

2. You can attach pdfs, word docs etc. You can even open them without purchasing any additional software.

3. Emails are really pushed which means the second someone clicks send on their computer it instantly hits your phone.

4. No reception issues and superb phone clarity even on speaker phone. I routinely use my blackberry on speaker phone and clients never notice.

5. a file manager, feel free to store any type of document whether a word document or third party software application. (recently i downloaded a program for my computer to my phone and then transferred it to my computer. My computer didn't have a working Internet connection in the conference room i was in but i really needed the software)

6. Comes with a built in application that allows you to post to Facebook, twitter, my space, and rss feeds simultaneously. (i have a torch, other models may not have this)

7. Multi tasking is awesome, i routinely have my navigation running, while I'm talking over blue tooth, searching the web, and writing and receiving emails.

8. long battery life ( at least longer than the iphone 4, and whole lot longer than the evo the only other phone i considered buying.)

9. Security, Blackberries are all double encyrpted and offer the highest amount of security.

10. Copy and paste- You can copy and paste from any part of the phone equally, easily and precisely. Web browser, gps, texts, emails, applications...anywhere.

11. Obama has one, and whats good for the goose is good for the gander :) j/k lol

12. Has all the standard features i need, video, camera, web browser blue tooth. i have used it taking bpo photos, and even uploading my first blog video. check out my blog if your curious.

For those that have Android phones, feel free to chime in with why you think Androids are better REAL ESTATE phones. Im on the verge of buying one and making it my asset manager only phone...havent been able to pull the trigger quite yet.

disclaimer: Michael Izquierdo is a little biased since he has used a blackberry for years, but he did give an iphone 4 a solid effort for 2 weeks. He did not get anywork done during those 2 weeks, but he did have a great time playing with it. He understands he may have left out its positive qualities. If you feel so inclined feel free to bring them up now :)

Joan,

Iphones are notorious for having lemons ( blackberries also have them, but not as much as iphone's in my experience and from what my circle of friends  has confirmed to me)

I must say I do not agree with this at all... Every item you listed here I can tell you is incorect.  The Iphone has the better reception in my area. I can download anyfile I want.  you just need to know what app to use, and the apps I use are free apps.

I love my Iphone and the blackberry to be is hard to use and doe snot do nearly anything... I respect that you like your phone we all like the phones we use..

have a great Day!!

Ken just one quick question iPhone has better reception than what?  I believe Michael compared two phones running on the same network (AT&T).

Glad I didn't run out and get the 4, I'm happy with my old 3G.  Although, I have to say, my husband's new Samsung Captivate is pretty darn impressive.

Hi Ken,

First off i respect all your comments, Cell phone debate can be a pretty heated

subject, trust me i am passionate about my phone. So i dont want this to turn into

that, but rather a educated debate and discussion.

It is entirely true i may have erred on something in my article, most likely something minor or due to wording.

Secondly... i did not discuss the ability to jailbreak your iphone, i analyzed

the phone the way it is shipped. There are certain apps you can purchase, or

download to fix some problems, but i can tell you that it is a pain finding the right

program. I purchased close to 75 dollars in applications in the two weeks i had the

phone, i also jail breaked it.

Real estate agents are not tech junkies like you and i. Stock, the blackberry does

everything i discussed.

As for reception, that is clearly a location and provider issue. What i mentioned

was its exterior antenna.

-For those that don't know, iphone placed its wifi, radio, and blue tooth antennas

on the exterior of the phone, and if your finger makes contact with a certain point,

your reception drops to zero if you leave your finger there. It is fixed by using a

case. but it does require you to put a case on your phone (apple should have

recalled the phone for this, but instead offered free cases to those that went back

into the store. ) even worse they ran a smear campaign against several other

phones saying they had the same issue which is simply not true. I tested my

blackberry and iphone 4 simultaneously and the only one with the issue was the

iphone.

phew... long comment. sorry about that. I am a bit of tech junkie :)

Cheers!

Didi,

If your a iphone person, you will love the iphone 4. The main upgrades seem to be overall speed of the phone, higher screen resolution and a few others. If you dont use bluetooth, or have any issues now with your phone, you will notice a lot of upgrades. However i dont personally think apple hit a home run with this release, there were too many issues in my opinion...more like a base hit...lol...Also by its release date, Apple has already started working on a iphone 5 supposedly.

Michael - the inability to mark all as read would drive me crazy too - I do that with my BB when I leave my desk for the day as I know I'm caught up to that point in time - I like to have the count of new messages be accurate and not 10,000 new messages indicated. I'd love to have an iPhone for other reasons but not an issue with me as no reception att at my house so would never choose. Android likely in my future, sooner the better! (but not due for upgrade for a little while)

the only android feature which has me wanting to switch providers is the 4g mobile wifi hotspot....however the battery is horrible....so once they improve that....it will be very tempting.

Thanks for the info Michael, I have a Driod and I love it. I'm probably only one-tenth as phone/tech savy as you, but I just plain like it for my my daily use. But then again I've never had an Iphone or Blackberry...

Michael,
Thanks for sharing all these Cons about the Iphone 4, I knew about the reception issue that you have to put a case to fix that issue, but I didn't know many of them, I'm an android guy and I love to work with android os, I'm stuck on 2.1 but soon I hope to be on Froyo 2.2 with more much power.

Don't get me wrong, I respect all your thoughts and way of view, but I never liked blackberry was the design and the screens.

I know that Apple is awesome for multimedia like my old commodore that was awesome in the old great years and I know that there are many applications out there to work, but that's it.

For google integration I prefer Android :)

Kudos !

Hi Ray,

Ive had a blackberry so long that i love its screen features...i think its one of those once your you get use to it, you love it things. But i will say that blackberry's arent as intuitive as an iphone or possibly a android. To really enjoy the blackberry you need to know shortcuts and be use to it or else you will hate it. I definetly have sat down and read my blackberry manual plenty of times. I can speak about how i feel about apple, but i cant comment on android phones other than the specs i read in articles. So i can only compare it to apple. The iphone is definetly easier to use and more intuitive, but limited in how you can go from different apps, upload items, etc etc.

I agree with your comment about apple. I hope my article isnt taken the wrong way. Iphones are great for multimedia and overall not a horrible phone (theres plenty of much worse phones out) .... the screen resolution was amazing. i enjoyed watching videos on it. Surfing the web was also pretty good. The apps were "fun" but not something im really into.

I am still soooo curious about androids....

thanks for your thoughts!

I have to say that I loved my Iphone 3 much better than my blackberry.  When I switched to the Iphone 4 it was driving me crazy initially.  However, once I got the case on it i've had no problems with it since.
