Tips for Improving Your Gas Mileage

These days when every dollar is precious, improving gas mileage for your car can save money.  Use these tips to keep extra change in your pocket.

•·         Check tire pressure frequently.  Keep your tires properly inflated.

•·         Keep your front suspension and steering proper alignment.

•·         Do not use premium fuel if your car does not require it (check your owner's manual.)

•·         Keep your speed at 55-65 per hour or less whenever possible.

•·         Avoid excessive warm-up time.  Modern engines do not require it.

•·         Use the thinnest viscosity oil that your car's manufacturer recommends (5W-30 for most newer cars.)

•·         Get your brakes checked regularly.

•·         Avoid quick stops and starts.  Anticipate merging traffic and stoplights - accelerate and decelerate smoothly.

•·         Keep your engine in proper mechanical condition and make sure the air and fuel filters are clean.

•·         Repair body damage.  A crunched front fender  adds drag which will decrease your miles per gallon.

•·         Do not idle your engine for long periods.  Turn off your engine whenever you leave your car.

Great tips! I have considered buying a different vehicle that gets better mileage, but the overall cost wouldn't be worth it for about 20 years. I guess I will just wait until I need to change...

Thanks for the money saving tips, every penny counts in these tough times, so we need to look at everything.  We need to look at talking fewer trips to the store by being very organized in all we do.
