What could be worse that just sitting around day after day in jail? The warden of this provincial jail in Cebu, Philippines decided it was time to get the prisoners of his facility moving. His solution? Dance calisthenics. Every able bodied man was forced to dance. You dance to get good behavior points. This video received over 4 million hits in its first month. Over 1500 inmates reportedly participated in this video event. |
Melissa and Julie,
You are both right in your reactions. Why do you feel that way? It is important to explore your reactions.
In most countries once in prison all you do is sit in the cell and think. That actually is detrimental. Activity especially dancing creates endorphins. Positive enzymes. There are more than 1500 prisoners in this facility. The take turns sleeping because the facility cannot house them all. The point is there are times when we make the wrong choices that we have to suffer the consequences of our action. For these poor souls the consequence is jail and dance calisthenics. Pretty mild considering the other potential consequences.
Hi Marie,
I had not seen this video before. It is kind of strange to see inmates "dancing" but I do have to say for 1500 inmates...they were pretty coordinated!
Patrick - that was perfect was it not? this is the best one of the series. Yup, there's more.
Corina,
Glad you enjoyed it. Have you seen the other dancing videos in the group "Real Estate and Ballroom Dancing"?
Tracy - That is what makes it so interesting! A hardened criminal WILL consider all this dancing to be torture. It will definitely change his/her mindset.
Ilyce - Glad you enjoyed it. You have checked out my other dancing videos right?
Deborah,
I love it - Purveyor of Dance!!! What an imagination! I was in the Borders yesterday and browsed through a thick bio of Rudolph Nureyev, one of the greatest male ballet dancers of our century. He was already dying but he was still choreographing. A few days before he died he was laying on a cot watching the opening of the whole program. It was not one number but a whole program similar to "Swan Lake". The people who know him mentioned that although he was dying (and he know it) you could still see the fire and passion in his eyes. He communicated that. That is what I live for, Deborah. To communicate fire and passion. If humanity returned to its dancing roots, it is very possible we can cultivate that again! We have become too sedentary to appreciate the simple things -like dancing! You ARE blessed to have the Purveyor of Dance around you. Take as much of it in as possible!!!
You know, a lot of my comments have seemingly disappeared from these blogs. Am I dreaming? Did I make the comments in my dream and now reality has hit me? I remember saying somthing about wanting to see him dancing modern dance. and Wow! at 60!
