Although GRAPE + BEAN calls itself a wine shop, a coffee spot and wine bar, I don't think the description does this unique cozy place justice - it's way more than that. Located in a circa 1850 building (think exposed beams, brick and wood floors), they not only offer wine by the glass (or bottle), specialty coffee, hand made breads and artisanal cheeses, but also lunch, dinner and brunch.
Wine tasting events, wine education classes, Grape of the Month - featuring small, independent producers making hand crafted wines - are just a few of the events offered at GRAPE + BEAN. You can check out their wines by the glass or by the bottle.
Earlier this year, GRAPE + BEAN offered its first Coffee Cupping (similar to a wine tasting, but for coffee) in partnership with Counter Culture Coffee, who roasts their single-origin, fair trade, and eco-friendly whole bean coffee and custom brewed coffee. Seriously, is this something you think you'll find at your local chain coffee shop? Think not.
Admittedly, I like to eat lunch there for their Smoked Salmon and Cucumber open face sandwich, which is served on hand made multigrain bread brushed with fresh heirloom tomato puree topped with cucumber slices. Although I'm tempted by their fresh, organic salads, hot sandwiches and terrific selection of artisanal cheeses, well, I have to admit I always end up ordering the same sandwich each and every time. Yeah, it's that good.
So, if you find yourself near South Royal Street in OLD TOWN ALEXANDRIA and you're looking for something a little different, with delicious, creative food and an outstanding selection of wine, coffee, hand made breads and artisanal cheeses, don't miss GRAPE + BEAN. You'll be hooked!
