The Little House That Could Bring Down The Big Banks

A small, nondescript farmhouse in Maine may one day host a monument marking it as the spot where the first volley of Foreclosure-Gate was fired. The house, owned by Nicolle Bradbury, is just one of millions facing foreclosure, but, according to an article in the NY Times, the owner refused to go quietly and sought help from a local nonprofit group offering legal assistance to foreclosure victims.

The article provides additional insights into what may become the biggest story of this recession, a “political football” that most don’t yet know how to grasp; and a crisis so complex, it has the potential to deepen the recession and severely damage some of our largest banks.

Ground zero for the robo signing mess. What audacity the banks have to do this to people!

The most interesting part of this article is, IMO,

"But Judge Powers went further than that, saying that GMAC had been admonished in a Florida court for using robo-signers four years ago but had persisted. "It is well past the time for such practices to end," he wrote, adding that GMAC had acted "in bad faith" by submitting Mr. Stephan's material:"

(tongue firmly planted in cheek) You mean all the government's intervention and we still may see failings?  Say it aint so.

John - Your observation about the potential damage to our "system" is an understatement!  The othr side issue is how our enlightened elected officials are going to react, or more importantly, act ....  Thanks for the post and the link .... just one more "gate" in my lifetime!

John, very interesting. She really is the "face" of this thing for some, because not only does she represent those stuck with fraudulent assignments, but she is also a homeowner who, unlike many, isn't faced with a temporary set back that should be considered by banks doing loan mods, BEFORE they engage in the foreclosure process steamroller.

She is  a scary example, because she cannot afford the house, and will be foreclosed on at such time as they can get it right- and SHOULD be foreclosed on...IF they can get it right. It's the "IF" that is the part that, to me, is very unnerving.

Bob - And where it goes, nobody knows.

Lenn - Yeah, that caught my eye too.  Regardless of the final resolution, it won't bode well for Main Streeet.

Hercel - Neither the government nor the banks seem to be able to get a handle on this; it's taken too many years and too many "sliced and diced" mortgages to get us here to have a quick solution.

Jack - Much as I've studied this issue, I can't see an easy way out.

Laurie - There are so many "Ifs" in this mess that it's impossible to imagine the ultimate end.

I think we are in scary times. These Banks think they can do no wrong, and just because someone is behind they can handle it any way they want to.

Evelyn - I think the banks may have more problems than we imagine.  This problem won't go away quietly.

Paul - There are so many articles on this topic showing up each day that it's difficult keeping up.  I suspect it will continue to grow in significance for some time.

In an effort to capitalize on bail out money and then make foreclosures as cheap as possible with no regard to the lives they affected, the banks have indeed created a mess that may just effect them profoundly.

John, thanks for the post.  I read the times article, as well as the article about Obama, and they remind me why I don't read the times.  I find that they shuffle one paragraph after another in almost random short-attention span fashion, and tell you as little as possible.  I'm hopeful for the collective power of the people who are getting to get some well deserved ground back in this.
