Maryland, Crabs, Ronald McDonald House...A Winning Combination For Sure

A few Sundays ago I headed over to the Eastern Shore to Oxford MD for a crab feast. Now Oxford is not a short drive from Annapolis but this trip was well worth the time it took to get there (about an hour and 20 minutes). Besides being able to eat all the crabs I could handle the feast was a fundraiser for the Ronald McDonald House in Baltimore. A winning combination for sure.

Inside Mastheads RestaurantIt was a rather cold day with rain in the forecast (it did)  but that did not stop us and about 300+ other people from heading to this very special feast. The event was/is the brainchild of Jen Benson of Jens Gems.  Jen is a runner, coach and trainer (and my niece) and a few years ago decided she wanted to not only run but run for a cause. So she and her team chose the Maryland Ronald McDonald House and has been one of their greatest supporters ever since.

If you haven't heard about the Ronald McDonald House it is a home for the families of sick children to stay in while their child is in the hospital being treated for a life threatening illness. It is a life support line for sure.

Held at the Masthead Restaurant in Oxford, the event was almost not to be as the restaurant was deluged with water from the over 8" of rain we had a few days before. But alas the owners were able to get it all together and the crab feast went off without a hitch.

Crabs and BeerAfter hours of eating crabs, beef, turkey and all the sides, watching football on a big screen TV (Go Ravens!!), socializing, listening to music and even dancing a little we decided to head into Oxford itself. This quaint little waterfront town is one of the oldest in Maryland and is absolutely charming. We found a ferry there to take us for a short ride across the Tred Avon River to Bellevue and we headed home from there.

I am already looking forward to next years trip to Oxford, the crabs and an opportunity to support such a worthy cause.

Love being the first to comment.  Maryland crabs to benefit Ronald McDonald house is about the best combo I can think of.  The weather would not matter at all, just as it didn't to you.

Martha  Being from NM I don't have the same love of crabs as locals do, but it was an event I  would have enjoyed supporting - I'd eat the turkey

Crabs and beer, that picture sure looks good. And with football on. Now that is a good time.
