Information about FHA - FHA 101
The Federal Housing Administration (FHA) is a largest government insurer of mortgages. In fact, they are the largest govt insurer worldwide. FHA is part of HUD and provides mortgage insurance on loans made by FHA approved lenders throughout the United States. With an FHA loan, those approved lenders have less risk because FHA will pay the lender if a homeowner defaults on his or her loan. (sounds like a good deal to me). Meanwhile, borrowers must meet certain requirements established by FHA to qualify for the insurance.
FHA has insured over 38 million home mortgages since its inception in 1934. Right now, FHA has over 6.5million insured single family mortgages and provides a significant economic boost to the country in the form of home and community development.
