Winter

Its getting pretty cold out there and with winter fast approaching, it's about time we all got our vehicles in tip top shape for the long winter ahead.

To get your vehicle ready for winter, you're going to want to have all the fluids checked and topped off: Brake fluid, antifreeze, washer fluid (don't add water to the washer fluid tank as it could freeze), power steering fluid, etc.

Replace your windshield wiper blades. Check your tires, make sure the air pressure is right. If you haven't done so in awhile, have the tires rotated. If you have snow tires, you may want to have them put on soon.

Check all your lights. Make sure brake lights, head lights, turn signals, fog lamps, and any other lights have good working bulbs and fuses.

It's also a good time to have an oil change and tune up done to your car, You don't want to get stuck out in the cold!

In case you do ever get stuck on the side of the road : make sure you car emergency kit is updated. Everyone should have a small bag in the car with a flashlight with good batteries, pocket hand warmers, and a blanket. You should also ensure you have: spare tire, jack, flares, tire iron, etc.

Hi Chris,

You are so right. Hubby and I will be putting our snows on soon and getting the oil changed and checking all the fluids.

It should be interesting to see if our winter will be easy like it was last year or if we get lots and lots of snow.

Thanks for the timely reminder Chris. My daughter just got her license and I have been meaning to put the emergency kit in her trunk. And we are supposed to get a few flurries today:(

Pretty picture Chris, and though we don't like to think its around the corner, it is!  We need to be prepared even a jont up the 400 series highways can turn into major delays and break downs. Let's all stay safe this winter.

Put my snows on last friday, Pam, my wife and mother-in-law will get it done this week.

I bought a good starter emergency kit from CostCo years ago, and have added to it over time.

Yes, Al and Peggy, for you I will add, try to keep all four tires attached to the wheels and on your car ;-)

Hi Chris - I had the snow tires put on early this year (about a week or two ago), just in time for the snow drizzle we had last week that melted before it hit the ground.

All we do out here for winter is check our windshield wipers because it is going to rain.
