The pineapple has become the official community symbol of Jensen Beach, and this is the 23rd year for the Pineapple Festival, one of the most popular street festivals on the Treasure Coast. About 50,000 people are expected to converge on Jensen Beach this weekend.
Entertainment features country singer Justin Moore, whose first single, Small Town USA, hit No. 1 earlier this year will perform at 8 p.m. Friday. At 8 p.m. Saturday it's southern rock from 38 Special, and the hip-hop reggae band The Dirty Heads will headline this year's festival at 6:30 p.m. Sunday. The Dirty Heads were named one of the best new bands of 2010 by Rolling Stone. Hits include Lay Me Down, Stand Tall, Chelsea and Neighborhood. The festival features midway rides, performances by Wade Henry, the popular unicyclist and street entertainer, and the Maximum Velocity Pro BMX bicycle and skateboard stunt team. The 20th anniversary of Jensen Beach's sister city - Gregory Town, Eleuthera, Bahamas - will be celebrated at the popular Bahamian Straw Market, with live island music by The Brilanders and Dr. Sea Breeze, and the colorful, popular Junkanoo parade.
The festival begins at 6 p.m. Friday November 5th.
When: 6 p.m.-midnight today; noon-midnight Saturday; and noon-9 p.m. Sunday.
Where: Pineapple Avenue from Church Street to Jensen Beach Boulevard. Artists and crafters will be set up in parking lots adjoining Jensen Beach Boulevard. The arts and crafts show is free.
Tickets: $15, includes all concerts and events. Free for kids 12 and younger. Extra for midway rides, game and concessions.
