Holiday Lights in the Neighborhood!!!

My favorite holiday tradition is one that started by accident. My kids and I love to drive through the neighborhoods to see the holiday lights that people have decorating their homes. It all began with us driving home from daycare in the evenings and we would try different routes to see what new lights we could find.

We no longer drive home from daycare so now we make special efforts to drive in different neighborhoods to see the decorations.

We kicked off our 2010 holiday light hunting season tonight by driving through some neighborhoods in Bowie, MD.

We found this awesome home in the Pointer Ridge neighborhood.

There weren't many houses decorated yet but this one made the drive all worthwhile! The side of the home was even gift wrapped!

Our neighborhood in Monaca, Pennsylvania was known for the beautifully decorated homes. Cars would drive through the neighborhood just to see them. Over time, it's changed. Although there are still some nicely decorated properties, it's nothing like it used to be. Sad...

Stacey That's one of my favorite childhood memories living in north Jersey. There was one neighborhood which was very competitive...and gorgeous! Going right after dinner to see all the lights, my sister and I under the blankets in the back seat, I'm smiling! Nice pictures and what a great family thing to do!

Lights are sparse here in Crofton too. Looks like next week might be the start for the season. Of course my house will have my 13' inflatable Santa again...much to my wife's chagrin.
