25 Cents on the Dollar..What a Heart Warming Day
This was my first experience to volunteer at the Christmas Store for our church, Colorado Community Church.
It takes 800 volunteers behind and in front of the scenes to make sure 2000 kids gets 2 gifts each.
1400 families are invited to take part in the gift selection for their families.
These brand new toys are displayed on tables according to age of the child. The prices for the toys is 25 cents on the dollar.
The appreciation and look of relief on the faces of the parents is so rewarding. It is quite a well oiled machine to get 1400 people through the lines and through the selection of gifts.
Target and Wal -Mart open at 6:00 AM on the day the volunteers are scheduled to go shop with donated money. The are given the ages of all the children to shop for. And off they go to buy thousands of gifts that will be warehoused until the day of the event.
Each parent has one of the helpers walk around the table with them and help them choose each gift.
Gifts are put into a basket the helpers carry then the parents are checked out. The helpers then take the gifts to gift wrapping, wrap all the gifts and return them to the parents. The parents wait in a lounge area and are given cookies, drinks and sandwiches. When their number is called they pick up the gifts that are wrapped and placed in a plastic bag. Off they go to put it all under the Christmas Tree. Oh my what an exhausting day..But it feels so good!
