Adopting a Pet

By

I just returned from a listing appointment with a client who wants to sell their home that has been used as an animal rescue center for the past 5 years. Coincidentally, I am about to adopt a cat from a client later this week. Seeing the home, a once rather nice home on the creek in South Austin, has given me pause about adopting a pet. Obviously, I won't be adopting 40 dogs, just one cat, but I couldn't help but notice the chewed bits and pieces, scratched up flooring and large clumps of pet hair everywhere.

I wondered as I drove away - Do I really want to go down the road of adopting a pet? Why not keep my life simple and easy, clean and tidy? After all, don't I get enough love from my two children? What about my furniture? Do I want it destroyed in a matter of minutes by scratching, clawing and general cat destruction? Honestly, when I think about adopting a pet, I know that my children are the reason I am getting this cat. Hopefully they will learn a little responsibility and our family will grow to fit our new furry friend.

However, I will not be getting 39 more for quite a while. Some great pet adoption websites include the Town Lake Animal Center as well as Blue Dog Rescue.

Warmly,

Wendy

Wendy:  Ten years ago I adopted a kitty from the sellers on one of my listings.  They were great folks.  They both played in the Fort Worth Symphony Orchestra.  They still do.  My adopted cat-daughter is Mollie T.  And... for ten years she has been the sweetest, lap-cat'est, snuggliest little furry thing.  And neve an accident.  Never anything chewed up or clawed up.  Cats have personalities, just like people do.  Unfortunately, though... you cannot get people de-clawed.

Hi Again, Wendy:  First of all... I see you are a Newbie to Active Rain... sooo... Welcome to Active Rain.  I am so glad you are here.

Because you are new... I am sure you are not aware of the Active Rain Groups feature.  It is a way of "including" certain types of posts in certain groups whose members would probably be interested IN that post.  Here is a tutorial I wrote about the Active Rain Groups.  Using the Active Rain "Groups Feature."  Lots of folks who have read it found it helpful.  The more groups you "include" your post in... the more sets of eyeballs that can read it... and the more Active Rainers you will meet.

And... since your post is about cats... I took the liberty of looking up some of the Active Rain groups that focus on Cats, and on animals.  Here is a list of what I found.

ActiveRain Group: Active Rain Cat Lovers

ActiveRain Group: Cats

ActiveRain Group: It's Raining DOGS! Dog Lovers Group

ActiveRain Group: Pet Friendly Real Estate

ActiveRain Group: PETS ARE PEOPLE TOO

You don't have to join all of them.  Click on each one if you wish... take a look at some of the posts... and then click on "join group" if you wish.

If you want to know what having some of the groups you pick... up to a max of five per post... to "include" your post in... click on my name at the bottom of this comment... and click on any of my posts... and then look just beneath the very bottom of the post itself... to see an example of how I include my posts in various groups.

Hope I am not throwing too much at you.  <smile>

Have a great week... and again... Welcome to Active Rain.
