White Christmas in Georgia

snow in GAWhile the northeast continues to recover from a blizzard of major proportions, metro Atlanta is still seeing the effects of the first white Christmas in more than 100 years. With accumulations in the Georgia mountains of six to eight inches, the snowfall was welcome by children and the young at heart.

Generally a rarity, snow in Georgia seldom occurs until January or February; and yet this year has already seen two measurable snowfalls, a crippling ice storm and record low temperatures. And while the local predictions were for a mild winter, it appears that the opposite may be in store. I’ve included a couple of photos of white Christmas in Georgia.

John,

Thanks for sharing the photos. Much prettier than what we have been getting here in SoCal.

Have a Happy and Rewarding New Year.

Sarah - It was beautiful, and the kid in me loved it!

Brad - I've seen some of the photos from CA--you've had some tough weather.  Hope it improves.

The Farmer's Almanac missed again!  Here too!  But we did not have the white Christmas the south had!

Jay - I just heard a report from the National Weather Service which is now predicting a "harsh" winter.  I could predict that now.

John - Those are amazing winter photos to come from Florida.  They could just as easily have been shot here in the Northern California Sierras.  On the news awhile I ago, I heard we had up to 200% of normal snow pack in some areas.  That's a blessing after having 3 draught years.

Hi John, I can guess this snow is probably unwelcome  this early but these photos of the snow are stunning. Great capture. Happy New Year John.
