Customer Service Where Has it Gone?

I just read a great blog post from Greg Nino a Realtor down in Houston Texas titled " We Shouldn't Have to Rely On A Klout Score To Determine How We Treat People."  It reminded me of the following story.

About twelve years ago I bought a lap top from "Worst" Buy and the power cord fried after about six weeks. I brought the cord back and I was told that they would need to send it back to Dell and wait for a new one to be sent. If this is two weeks prior I'm walking out with a new cord but because of their 30 day return policy I'm resigned to this. I asked to speak to the manager and explained that I now have a 5 lb paper weight and I can't be without the cord. He gives me a brand new laptop and takes my credit card info down and says he will call me when the new cord comes in. Six weeks goes by and my wife asks me what am I going to do with the extra laptop. I told her that when the store calls with my cord I will bring it back. Well most wives are smarter than husbands and my wife is no exception. She reminds me that they have my credit card information and I should be more proactive. I make the call and the person who I spoke to said the cord had been there for about week ready for me to pick up. With smoke billowing out my ears I reach for the box the extra laptop came in and a paper and pen. I found a small box within the laptop box that had its seal still in tact. I grabbed the paper and pen and wrote the following note. DEAR BEST BUY CONSUMER, WHEN MY COMPUTER BROKE, BEST BUY WAS KIND ENOUGH TO LET ME BORROW YOURS. SINCERELY AN EX-BEST BUY CONSUMER! I folded the note, and with the help of a butter knife I slid the note behind the seal on the small box.

I would love to hear about your customer service nightmares or good experiences if you have them to share.

Home is where the hearth is.

You can't really complain about the service... they did, after all, give you a loaner, which is pretty nice of them.
