Does a Facebook Page make sense for REALTORS?

There is a lot of hype around Facebook, Twitter and social media in general.  The last twelve months have seen a huge uptick in the use of social media in the real estate community.

Let's focus on Facebook.  I believe that Facebook presents the best opportunity for REALTORS to use social media to connect with buyers and sellers.  I could quote a bunch of stats such as the number of users that Facebook has and also how Facebook has leap frogged Google for the most use online today.

Where does Facebook fit in?  Besides providing you the ability to connect with people, create a list of people you know, like and trust and stay current with what is going on with your friends, Facebook provides a public free website for your real estate business.

However, you must understand your target market.  Facebook is not the only advertising and marketing platform out there.  You must know how to leverage this with all your other marketing strategies and have a plan of action in place.

Yes, free website is exactly what I said.  Facebook Pages or Fan Pages are a great opportunity for your real estate business to have another website online today.

Facebook Pages allow you to connect with the community without exposing your personal account.  You can continue to share your family pictures and keep your business side separate.

Here are a few recommendations to ensure your get the most from your Facebook Page.

1.  Use your Facebook Page as an extension to your existing website or blog.  Keep your brand, logos and brokerage information consistent across all of our online marketing, especially on Facebook.

2.  Use your Facebook Page to showcase your current listings and opportunities.  Remember this is marketing and advertising.  Use it to your advantage.

3.  Look for other ways to link in your existing marketing.  YouTube channels can be easily added to Facebook, discussions, community posts and much more.  Need something to work on your Facebook Page, it is just a search away in most cases.

Facebook Pages are a great way to reach your market and keep your existing clients connected to you.  Need some help figuring this out. You can contact Ulistic today at 403.604.9464 to talk about how your Real Estate business can leverage Facebook.

Here are some examples of Facebook Pages in use today with different functionality.

Gord Piper is a Calgary REALTOR with Century 21 - Gord uses his Facebook Page to drive qualified web traffic to his website for featured listings, MLS Search and much more.  Check out Gord's site at http://www.facebook.com/pages/Gord-Piper-and-Associates/158432327528528?v=app_4949752878&ref=ts

Kevin Baldwin is a Strathmore Alberta REALTOR with RE/MAX Properties - With Kevin's Facebook Page he showcases a number of different things.  One of his key uses is to talk about his Cruise giveaway.  Check out Kevin's page at http://www.facebook.com/pages/ReMax-Properties/165940573443812?v=app_4949752878&ref=ts

Other examples from outside the Real Estate community include Ohio IT Firm Micro Doctor who have video tied into their site, check out how Micro Doctor uses video in their Facebook site - http://www.facebook.com/pages/Ohio-Computer-and-Information-Technology-Support-Micro-Doctor/114345835304125?v=app_4949752878&ref=ts

Thank You Patrick for your wishes.

Lorraine/Loretta - It always starts with education.  You need to understand your target market and make sure you are using your time wisely.  Sure Facebook Pages are free or inexpensive to setup with customized code.  But if you don't know your market and how to best reach them...you are spinning your wheels.
