Angel Food Ministries. Talk about a lifesaver!

This was brought to my attention by my friend and fellow REALTOR® in Wrightsville Beach. Tish gives you all the information that you need on the program. Angel Food Ministries. Talk about a lifesaver!
I've noticed the signs at churches around town, Angel Food Ministries, and assumed it was a food pantry. It took me a while to look into it and discover how wrong I was!
Turns out Angel Food Ministries is a non-profit, non-denominational, organization dedicated to food relief and financial support to communities throughout the United States. There are 5,200 volunteer host sites in the US!
Here's how it works: You order as many boxes of food as you would like, for $31/each -- the box contains enough food items to feed a family of four for about a week or a single senior citizen for almost a month. The items are all the same high quality you would purchase at your local grocery store; no second-hand items or damaged packaging. If you purchased all of the same items ind
ividually you would spend about $65.
January 2011's menu included: 1.5 pound beef roast, 2.5 pounds of chicken breast, 2 pounds breaded chicken breast, 1.5 pounds of fully cooked meatballs, 2 pounds of minestrone soup, 1 pound of lean ground beef, 1 pound sweet Italian sausage, 1 pound of yellow squash and zucchini, 1 pound of sugar snap peas and carrots, 5 pounds of waffle fries, rice mix, 1 pound of pasta, 25 ounce pasta sauce, 1 pound of northern beans, 18 ounces of quick cooking oatmeal and 1 dozen eggs!
The menu changes monthly, and you do need to order a month in advance. There are also add on boxes if you desire -- fruit, vegetable, meat, etc.
Orders and Distribution are handled by church host sites and once a month distribution of the boxes takes place. Here in Wilmington, NC there are 11 host sites within 20 miles, so finding one close to you won't be a problem!
The Angel Food Ministries Program is open to everyone. You don't need to prove a need or fill out a bunch of paperwork. You can place your order online or contact a host site about ordering through one of their representatives. You can even set up a regular order -- how much easier could it get?
I'm so glad I checked into Angel Food Ministries -- with today's economic uncertainties, there are many who could use a break on groceries. And putting our buying power to work like this is just a win/win!
