Little knows facts about the 2011 BCS Bowl

-Never before have two teams started the season outside the AP Top 10 list and played for the BCS Title

-First BCS Bowl for both Auburn & Oregon

-Prior to the 2011 BCS Bowl: the Tigers averaged 43 points per game this season; the Ducks averaged 49 points per game

The Ducks were not slated to win.  The day of the game, the booking odds at the Hilton Sports Book in Las Vegas were 2 ½ favoring Auburn.  The ticket sales were 2:1 with twice as many Auburn fans as Oregon fans.  Puddles (the Ducks mascot) was tired having already done 2,757 push-ups for the season.

But for the first time in Ducks history they were 12-0, and they felt the drive like never before.  they gave the Tigers a run for their Waterford Crystal Trophy, taking it down to 2 seconds and a 3 point field goal from the 1 yard line.  Final score: 22-19, Auburn.

It wasn’t a pretty game with players from both teams slipping and sliding on the slippery grass.  Hats off to Auburn as they kept Oregon out of the end zone on several possessions, holding Oregon’s awesome offense to less than 20 points.

Our Oregon hearts are broken, yet we look forward to the 2011 season, knowing that the Ducks are capable of more than they even think they are!

Ellen....cool facts.  Got to be honest though.  Since they switched from the New Year's Day bowlfest to dragging it out over 10 days, I lost all interest.  It was a great game, but I joined so late b/c my interest for college football waned after this past playoff weekend with the pros.  BTW....good info here!

I consider myself a pretty knowledgeable college football fan.  These are really cool facts.  I was cheering for the DUCKS because they are part of the PAC-10 but regardless of the outcome....Congrats UofOregon and all its achievements this year!

This is a nice post on tonight's BCS Championship game in Glendale, AZ.

It was a terrific game.  The Auburn Tigers held Oregon's great running back, LaMichael James, the country's best running back, to very few yards.  On the other hand, the Ducks really did pretty much stop Auburn's Heisman trophy quarterback, Cam Newton.....who did not have a good night.

All through the game I was pretty disgusted with the obvious SEC bias of the ESPN broadcast team.

But in the end they were right: Oregon simply wasn't up to dealing with Auburn's defensive front line....especially that giant of a man, Nick Fairley who was really the difference in the game.  Some say Fairley plays dirty.  He may.  The refs called him on it tonight as least once.  But stopping him is a little like controlling a Gulf Coast hurricane.

Our Ducks played well.

The field was new and terrible for both sides.  That may have hurt Oregon's speedy execution on offense.  The difference in the game, scorewise, was that Oregon was unable to punch in a key touchdown on one particular drive into the red zone.

But the game was a thrilling, see-saw battle between worthy opponents.  There were plenty of fabulous plays made and a lot of great play calling.

Our Ducks made us proud.

But I really want to know how Auburn got twice the fans to the game....did all the extra seats come to them at the scalper rates of over $1200 a seat?  If so, I have to hand it to their dedication.

Me, I watched it as my first experience with 3-D TV viewing.  Wonderful!

Go Ducks!  Next season is now calling.

Ellen, I was on the edge of my seat the whole game until the clock hit 0:00.  Then the reality that our Ducks had lost hit home.  What season for the U of O and little Eugene, Oregon in the Pacific Northwest.  Don't worry, "We'll Be Back!"
