Ranch Roping outside of Kiowa!

By
Real Estate Agent with Colorado Western Real Estate

Karen and I had the pleasure of once again participating in an incredible learning experience which occurs each September here in Elbert County, Colorado.  Dave and Gwen Weaver come to this area each fall to help us enhance our skills at ranch roping.  Dave is a lifetime Buckaroo living in Northern California who has worked for major cattle operations all over the west.  He knows as much about the ways of cattle as anyone you'll ever meet and Gwen is one of the best teachers you will ever know.  Together they produce the best environment possible for teaching the novice through accomplished roper.  They teach the traditional Vaquero style of horsemanship and roping techniques which is the most effective method of roping and virtual poetry to watch and perform.  These clinics allow us out here in ranching country to be more effective in the techniques that once were pervasive throughout the west 100 years ago.  For those of you living and working on cattle ranches or  those with an appreciation of traditional western lifestyle, I encourage you to look on Dave and Gwen's website at www.thecalifornios.com.  You will enjoy it greatly!

Sounds fascinating!  Of course, with the few cows/bull that we have, I don't do any roping - the Magic Blue Bucket does the trick every time!

But I admire those who do it, and with style!

Wally - sounds like a great time. My Grandfather is an amazing roper. He's 87 and still rides every day (in addition to flying his own plane!!!)
