Watching some of my fellow real estate professionals ply their trade brings a smile to my face. They rush around, trying each and every new device and gimmick they hear or see. To what end?
While social networking seems to be the best, new technique to get the word out about your real estate business, some of the older marketing techniques still work too.
My thoughts have always been to be the Tortoise rather than the Hare. Hence the title of this piece, "Beat the Drum Slowly." Too many jump out of the chute at a breakneck speed just to become exhausted, discouraged and broke, trying to be the best in real estate in the shortest amount of time. Many forget this is a professional and professionals are in it for the long haul.
My personal experiences are to use some of the older techniques for marketing oneself in this modern era of computers, clouds and social networking. Case in point, the business card.
Passing out business cards is a very old practice among professionals. In Japan, not having a business card to pass out means not being a professional. Oh my! Just last month an acquaintance called and asked me to market his home. He had been handed my card some two years ago! Business cards may be pedestrian to some, however are a tried and true method.
This discussion could go on to cover all the older marketing techniques, however that defeats my main point. Time and effort always holds over vigor and speed. We must be self-disciplined and not expect immediate gratification to our marketing efforts. At times my frustration is heightened when farming does not result in the intended results. So be it. Keep at it. Beat the drum slowly and they will hear.
Best wishes to all my fellow real estate professionals.
