Late Night Shows, Belltown - Last year I found myself with a job that ended at 9:30p.m. Friday - Monday. Being absolutely in love with theater and going out in general I went on a mission to find late night shows in Belltown (since that's where I worked). I found only one place that consistently had late night shows, Open Circle Theater. Open Circle Theater or OCT, is located at 2222 2nd Ave or on the same block as Shorty's & Lava Lounge and can only be found by finding the glass door with a set of stairs you have to walk up in order to find the theater (once up the steps hang a right and it's through the doors).
Mitzy's Ditzy Glitzy Variety Show happens on the third Saturday of every month and is one of my favorite late night shows for several reasons! The first is that it's pay what you can so despite how many tips I had that week, I can donate anything from $2 bucks to $20 (although I always made sure to buy some raffle tickets, because the profit from the raffle tickets is divided up amongst the performers) and still get in to see a great show! Which brings me to the next reason I love the late night shows; there is always amazing performers there! From burlesque to drag to everything in between I have seen Vixen Valentine, Beatrice Belladonna, Juniper Gin, Sylvia O'Stayformore, Belle Bijoux, Va Gina Velvet and of course the fabulous host herself Mitzy 6! The other thing I like about variety shows in general is that it's a more relaxed environment so I can watch a couple acts, grab a drink (which are cheaper than the neighboring bars), see a couple more acts and it's never the same show twice.
On other weekends they have a rotating mix of other late night shows throughout the month from theater shows, drag, burlesque I can always find something I like there. In order to find up to date information I just go to the late night shows at OCT page on facebook to see what's going on. Aside form the late night shows there is also an entire theater season with some of the best shows I have seen around town. I just saw the Judy Garland Christmas Special there last December and laughed so hard I cried (it seems they do this one in December so DON'T MISS IT)!
