Cities need volunteers for boards and commissions

Do you wish you could have some influence on your local government? Do you ever wonder who put in the red lights or decided how zoning would be applied?

Most city governments have boards and commissions made up of citizen volunteers who give the city direction and approval for projects. In my city there are boards for:

* Capital Improvements Plan Advisory Committee (CIPAC)
* Firefighters' and Police Officers' Civil Service Commission
* Property Standards Board
* Historic Preservation Advisory Committee (HPAC)
* Library Board
* Museum Board
* Neighborhood Advisory Commission
* Parks & Recreation Board
* Planning & Zoning Commission
* Tax Increment Reinvestment Zone
* Traffic Advisory Committee
* Youth Task Force

Check out your city's website and see where you can spent an hour a month helping improve the place you live. Democracy requires participation. Besides, it will make you better informed about your city which will make you a better agent.

Good call Bob. Most Counties and Cities welcome new blood to their Boards and Committees. It's an excellent chance to learn more about your area and help.

Hi Bob... Great point!  It's easy to stand on the outside and point fingers.  We should all get involved and be part of the process!

Bob,

You would think your fellow Realtors would be falling all over themselves to be on some those boards.
