It all started a few weeks ago when I received a call to perform an EIFS inspection.  The home was about an hour away and it was not a small home so scheduling was an issue.  Well I finally had a date open and then the rains came.  It had not rained all summer and then we needed to build an ark!  The problem with rain and an EIFS inspection is that they do not mix.  I need about 48 rain free hours to perform an EIFS inspection.  A week later the rain stopped and I was able to schedule the inspection for yesterday.  The owner called the morning before and confirmed the time and we were good to go.  We even joked about the rain and the rescheduling that took place.

So I head to the inspection, it was a pleasant drive through northern middle Tennessee, rolling hills and farms are allover the area.  The weather was great, sunny and in the mid 60's.  My trusty GPS finally directed me to the home.  From the road the home was not visible, so I turned onto the drive and headed to the house.  Cars were parked all over the place, in the grass and around the circular drive.  I thought that they were having a party or something.

I parked my truck and headed to the front door, I mashed the door bell button.  A nice lady answered the door.  I greeted her with my usual jovial self, by saying; "Y'all must be having a party!"   She responded, "You must not know!" I must have had a strange look on my face, before I could respond she said that Mr.xxxxx had died yesterday morning.  The owner passed away right after he spoke with me.  In fact it sounded like I was the last person he spoke with before he died.  I was stunned.  After my condolences I told her that they would be in our prayers and I left.

The drive back home was long.  It was difficult to realize that I was the last person my client to be ever spoke with.  Not even his family had the opportunity to speak with him.

You just never know, life is too short.  So be kind to everyone you meet and cherish the time that you have with everyone you come in contact with.

Scott: I'm with you, the drive must have been long and spiritual. Makes you realize how fast life goes by and can end suddenly. Live each day to it's fullest.

Scott, I know exactly how you feel.  My mother passed away in Alaska a couple of weeks ago.  I hadn't talked to her in a while, and now never will.

The best advice I can give, always remember the golden rule, and  don't be afraid to tell your loved ones that you love them every time you talk to them.  It just might be the last time.

Wow... when your the last person to speak to another human being just before they die... it really give you pause to think about eternity.  "See you in the morning".  Good post Scott.

As Garth Brooks sang "If tomorrow never comes....."

Reminds us that we are but a blip in time and that time is important no matter what we do. I'm always finding myself taking life too seriously and forgetting to have fun and not worry about every little thing that bugs me.

Thank you for sharing and reminding us of this Scott.

WOW!  Very humbling !  Life is too short to get bent out of shape about all of the small stuff.

Wow, that really must have been a long ride home.  Thanks for sharing that.   Last winter I was inspecting a house that was an estate sale.  The realtor said that the owner had just died of old age in his sleep.  Later when I was inspecting the furnace, I found what really killed him, a big crack in the heat exchanger.  How that got past the coroner I have no idea, but when I fired up the furnace my CO monitor went off the scale.
