It all started a few weeks ago when I received a call to perform an EIFS inspection. The home was about an hour away and it was not a small home so scheduling was an issue. Well I finally had a date open and then the rains came. It had not rained all summer and then we needed to build an ark! The problem with rain and an EIFS inspection is that they do not mix. I need about 48 rain free hours to perform an EIFS inspection. A week later the rain stopped and I was able to schedule the inspection for yesterday. The owner called the morning before and confirmed the time and we were good to go. We even joked about the rain and the rescheduling that took place.
So I head to the inspection, it was a pleasant drive through northern middle Tennessee, rolling hills and farms are allover the area. The weather was great, sunny and in the mid 60's. My trusty GPS finally directed me to the home. From the road the home was not visible, so I turned onto the drive and headed to the house. Cars were parked all over the place, in the grass and around the circular drive. I thought that they were having a party or something.
I parked my truck and headed to the front door, I mashed the door bell button. A nice lady answered the door. I greeted her with my usual jovial self, by saying; "Y'all must be having a party!" She responded, "You must not know!" I must have had a strange look on my face, before I could respond she said that Mr.xxxxx had died yesterday morning. The owner passed away right after he spoke with me. In fact it sounded like I was the last person he spoke with before he died. I was stunned. After my condolences I told her that they would be in our prayers and I left.
The drive back home was long. It was difficult to realize that I was the last person my client to be ever spoke with. Not even his family had the opportunity to speak with him.
You just never know, life is too short. So be kind to everyone you meet and cherish the time that you have with everyone you come in contact with.
