Judsonia card from 1910 now on ebay. Train, wagons, strawberries and a car!

By
Real Estate Agent with RE/MAX Advantage

This card is for sale on ebay right now.  It is a great one for history and I hope Judsonia will buy it.

Judsonia card

It reads, "We saw a string of wagons like this picture.  Mr. Longin took a picture of them."

Then the card is labeled Judsonia Ark. Monday May 2 -10.  14 cars 7270 cases srawberries.

It looks as if this picture was taken along the railroad tract in what is now called Depot Town.  I did a blog a few weeks ago showing an old store in this area.  It must have been strawberry season and folks must have been bringing strawberries to the train.  And that looks like a horseless carriage on the street.

Ludean, so they were big into strawberries in Judsonia too.  I guess the tornado wiped that out.  In fact, Judsonia may have been more industrious than Bald Knob before 1952?

I think that is right.  I wasn't here when the tornado hit.  I think that Judsonia was the strawberry capitol.

Searcy even was into strawberries.  I used to cap strawberrys after school right across the street from where the Jr. High school is now. East side of the school.  I think they paid 75 cents a crate for capping.  That has been a few years ago, so I could be wrong, but I think that was the wage. That was the 'good ole days', but I could buy a pair of anklets for a dime, too.

Oh...you guys are too kind.  Thanks, for being so forgiving.

Ya'll are making me hungry for Strawberries.  Willard got some for $2.00 just the other day...not bad tasting either.  It seems a long time to strawberry season though.

I have heard all kinds of stories about the big tornado in Judsonia but I didn't know that Judsonia was the strawberry capitol prior to that time.  I only knew about Bald Knobs claim.  No matters...just bring on the treats!

I see a history book in the making just by printing off old blog post...what do you think.  You have all kinds of lessons the practical, the whimsical, even sp"a"lling!

Dare I even think to ask...where did the name Judsonia come from?  Jud had a sony?  Just wondering ... it isn't like a name I have heard much.  I know that Sowell was different for me too but I found out that it is a family's name.  You guys have taught me about how Bald Knob was named so...does anyone have a clue?

Dear Godmother,

I am still oh so embarrassed to be waring this strawberry shortcake outfit that you suggested I wear. I like fruit suits but it is hard to be manly in this contraption which is giving me a conniption. If it were anyone but you, I would refuse to dress this way.

Godson, doing as told

Ludean, the good ole days I remember too.  For a dime I got a coke and a package of crackers or a big candy bar.  Remember the country song where the words say, "I remember putting peanuts in my coke,"  or something similar to that.  I remember that too.

Debbie, I also don't know where the name Judsonia came from.  I'd never thought about it til now and now I'll wake up at night wondering where the name came from!  Regarding the blog printing, my daughter last year brought in stacks of notebooks where she'd printed out all my blogs.  She insists that I keep it up.  Slave driver!!

Nutsy, CUT IT OUT!

I had to look it up to be sure my memory was accurate, but...Judsonia was named for a Babtist missonary named Adoniram Judson.  The town was founded in 1840 by Erastus Gregory and was originally known as Prospect Bluff.  A. Judson founded a Baptist University there in 1871, which "died" in 1883 (the University, not Judson).  This information came to me originally through association with W.E."Skinny" Orr  who expounded daily on the history of Judsonia when our offices were located down the hall for each other back in the 70's/80's.

Mary, thanks for that update.  I'll bet it would have been in Muncy's book, too.  Muncy's book, I noticed is on ebay right now with an asking price of $25.95.  I bought two of them when he published them in 1976.  Now I can more properly appreciate the amount of work that he put into that history book.

Looks like Ms Barbara will sleep easy thanks to Ms Mary.  Interesting names...you don't hear names like that anymore.

We are fighting with Nutsy's relatives.  He thinks he is going to win and take over Luke's closet.  They have run him out again and invaded his inner domain.  He knows about pellet guns so that didn't work...we have reclaimed the closet...ran him out of the attic again...and since we are snowed in and limited on supplies...we are seeing how he likes a box of mothballs...placed in his special hiding spot.  Maybe he won't like then enough to stay away for at least a little while.  Nothing like a challenge.  He is wayyy too familiar with all the nooks and crannies but we are learning...stick to the trees nutsy...we don't want to mistake you for a wayward relation.  You pick your friends but not your relatives.

Yes, I do remember the peanuts in the coke.  I did that sometimes.  Good memories.

Godmother,

As long as I wear this stupid outfit you told me to wear, I will not be mistaken for one of Ms Debbie's friends. And I will not be able to hide in any trees. I stick out like a sore thumb.

Barbara,

I am confused here. Nutsy said you wanted him dressed as a strawberry shortcake, which he has done. Frankly, I think he looks foolish, but he always does as you tell him.

Steven, we have a problem with your star inspector and my not-so-star-anymore godson.  He has a tendency to F-I-B. (That's a nice way of saying he's a little liar)  Don't let this get out, though, because you know so many of those fiends are out to get him anyway......  I guess I could go back and delete all those awful pictures but then I'd lose my points....(sigh)

Nutsy...you are adorably cute dressed as strawberry shortcake...you look like you are drippiing with sweetness in this little outfit...why would you need to hide in any tress...you certainly would not be mistaken for the squirrels on crack in our neck of the woods.

Sean got close enough he just missed our dear pest with a hammer.  Stephen was outside with pellet gun and he saw the thing jump out throwing a fit but didn't get a shot.  The little rascal is smart.  He had been coming into the attic from all ends and as we would close them off we couldn't figure out where he was coming in at or where his little hold up was located.  He is smart enough that he chewed a hole in Luke closet so that heat would fill his little space and has a back door in the siding on the highest part of the house.  All he needs is a tux and a sports car and he would be 007.  His days are numbered.  I got a photo of him the other day...twitching his little tail and rolling his big eyes...looking all innocent and weak...He doesn't fool me any...I'm a PETA...People Eating Tasty Animals activist.  We are patient and now we know the secret entrance to the hole in the wall gangs location.  He hasn't got a chance.  This cousin to the rodent is about to HIT the ROAD!  Sorry, but another one is going to BITE the Dust if he doesn't choose Dusty's Tails (trails).

Debbie, you need to send me the picture of your little squirrel and I'll post it for you.  He sounds like someone who might be able to take Nutsy's place in my will.  He is as smart as squirrels come and just as fascinating....seems to me.....

Debbie's squirrel and possible replacement for Nutsy if Nutsy doesn't reform, straighten up and fly right and get rid of that strawberry suit.  That is....if he survives Debbie's war against him.

Nutsy, take a look at that fluffy little cutie just above the ridiculous looking hot dog with smeared mustard and you'll see why my inheritance is getting close to shifting.  But I must say this outfit is not as bad as the strawberry.  The fluffy little feller is a fighter.  He's working hard at trying to reclaim his real estate that a stranger named Ms Debbie is trying to take away from him.  You gotta admire courage!!

But Godmother, these mean people are trying to murder him. I do not want to get attached to him. They are cruel and heartless. I see Custard's last stand looking him in the eye.

But Nutsy, I am fondly attached to this lovely creature that is fighting with Ms Debbie.  I think I'll get her a cage and perhaps she can trap him and we'll give him some outfits and he can be your assistant!
