Most Expensive Home Sales in Northern Virginia for January 2011

Are you wondering about Northern Virginia real estate and pondering what has sold recently?

Here's some information about the most expensive home sales in Northern Virginia (Arlington County, Alexandria City, Fairfax City, Fairfax County, and Falls Church City) for January 2011.  All information was obtained through MRIS.

Overall, there were 42 Northern Virginia home sales topping $1 million during January 2011.  This is a big drop from the 70 that sold in December 2010 and below the 57 that sold in November.  This reflects an overall slow month for real estate in January 2011. 

Currently, there are 566 homes on the market in Northern Virginia with list prices topping $1 million - this is a slight increase from the 540 that were on the market at this time last month.

JANUARY 2011'S MOST EXPENSIVE SALES

Most Expensive Home Sales in Northern VirginiaSingle Family Detached Homes:

  • 7705 Carlton Place, McLean, VA 22102 -- Sold on January 31st for $3,140,000
    This estate in the Millwood area of McLean was on the market for over a year, but finally sold in January.  The 1992-built home has over 10,261 square feet of living space, 7 bedrooms, and 10 full bathrooms!  It sold for $760,000 below the asking price.  With an elevator, library, and pool, the new owner got a good deal!
     
  • 2027 Hunter Mill Road, Vienna, VA 22181 -- Sold on January 14th for $2,185,000
    Located in Vienna, this elegant home has a 100 year tile roof, an attached guest suite with 2 bedrooms and bath.  The main home is 6 bedrooms, 6 full bathrooms on 2 acres and features a kitchen with very rare Blue Bahia granite and a 48 inch Viking range.

  • 881 Chinquapin Road, McLean, VA 22102 -- Sold on January 12th for $2,025,000
    On almost 2 acres, this McLean Falls home has a 3 story addition which includes a 5th upper level bedroom.  Built in 1997, this 5,523 square foot home sold for just $170K below asking price.

  • 508 Queen Street, Alexandria, VA 22314 -- Sold on January 17th for $1,602,000
    Right in the heart of Old Town Alexandria, this townhouse has 2,284 square feet of living space.  It's a new house in an old shell!  The original home was built in 1806, but the inside is brand new.  The home has beautiful wood floors, tall ceilings, four fireplaces and two off-street parking spaces (these are premium in Old Town).

  • 120 N. Columbus Street, Alexandria, VA 22314 -- Sold on January 26th for $900,000
    Built in 1994, this Old Town Alexandria townhouse has almost 2,500 square feet of space with 3 bedrooms and 3.5 bathrooms.  The rear patio is lushly landscaped.
     
  • 101 Franklin Street, Alexandria, VA 22314 -- Sold on January 28th for $830,000
    Also in Old Town Alexandria, this end-unit brick townhouse was built in 1971 and features an eat-in kitchen, 1,910 square feet, and a huge floored attic.  It's located in the Pommander Walk area of Alexandria.

    Located in the Dakota, this boutique condo has an elevator that opens right into the unit.  It features 2,210 square feet on one level with lots of large open spaces, custom moldings, tray ceilings, and marble accents.  The two balconies provide excellent views of the Key Bridge and Georgetown.
