I am sending out a Belated Happy Birthday to my Granny Millie!
She turned 88 this week!
We were supposed to have gone to Baker City this weekend to help her to celebrate but the snow kept us home. We will have to go over another weekend when the weather is better!
My Granny was married as a very young lady...she was only 15 or 16 years old!
She had 4 children. My Dad was only a baby when my Gramps, Carl Byron, was drafted to go over to Europe during WWII.
Granny stayed at home with her 3 children....my Aunt Caron would be born later.
Granny was the youngest of 11 children and grew up in Eastern Oregon.
Granny and Gramps were married more than 60 years when he passed away about 10 years ago!
I have very fond memories of visiting her house frequently as a young girl. Those tastes and smells of all our our Granny's are still memories I cherish. Her purse always smelled a combination of spearmint gum and lipstick!
She introduced my brother and sister and I to real butter....that mixed with honey was always a wonderful breakfast treat we all enjoyed!
Granny was a beautiful seamstress....and very creative. I am sure I inherited some of that skill from her....I make raggedy doll dresses more than people clothes though!
She kept an immaculate home clear up until a few years ago when Alzheimer's took over and she was moved into a group home!
I still have many letters she wrote me when I went to college in Southern California ...and forgot to come home for 10 years! She always thought I was going to be in an earthquake. She had a real fear that I would fall into the ocean during an earthquake!
I am thankful for the times I spent with her since moving back from California. I was able to get a bit of genealogy information from her. I also was privileged to learn how to make beef and noodles with her.
We played many card games with Granny when we were growing up! I also remember many nights sleeping on the hide a bed in the living room...going to sleep with background music of Gramps and My Dad playing the guitar and singing us to sleep!
I know that my Granny doesn't really remember who I am these days...but that is ok...I have enough memories for both of us!!!
