Rise to the TOP
If you're running a business in 2011, its a no-brainer that you need a website. Get your website in the fast lane of the information highway or get stuck in a cyber deadend.
To put it another way, is your website doing its job in terms of driving customers to look at and buy your services.
No matter how good your site looks, it's wasted if your online audience is too small. As most people know, you can pay to boost your standing, at a price. BUT there are some FREE tricks and tools that you, or your web designer, can use to boost your ranking.
1. Search Engines don't just find your site by accident. They need to know you exist. Submit to the big 3 - Google, Yahoo! and Bing.
www.google.com/addurl/ http://search.yahoo.com/info/submit
www.bing.com/webmaster/submitsitepage.aspx
2. Another key place to submit your site is www.dmoz.org/help/submit.html this is an indepenent, non-profit web-monitoring project that links to Google's directory. A real person checks this - so it may take time before you see the rewards.
3. Does your site have a sitemap? It's an often neglected file thatt gives search engines a list of your website's contents. Good news is you don't have even know how to make a map. Several sites, like www.xml-sitemaps.com , will generate one for you. You will need to submit your sitemap after its done to the search engines.
4. Photos lift your website's appearance - and they can also help search engines if you're smart with naming the files. So "Gucci_Calgary_shoes.jpg" will help, while "shoespic23"jpg, will do nothing.
5. Links from other sites to yours can really boost your rankings. It's work getting involved in forums and discussions boards and linking back to your site. BUT BEWARE of asking your best friend to link to your website in exchange for your doing the same. Search engines are wise to this tactic and disregard it.
