The ECO Real Estate business in Asheville is a good business. In fact the Real Estate Business here in general is a good business. I know this may seem hard to believe during a time when so much of our nation's housing market seems to have taken a lull, but it is true. The Real Estate market in Asheville and most of Western North Carolina is thriving. And of course this means growth. Now, growth is natural, however growth at the rate we are experiencing can make some people nervous.
They say you cannot close the door behind you; this is a saying that holds true here in Asheville, where 95% of population growth comes from people moving in from out of state. And for many of us who have come to find and love this pocket of the world there also comes an almost familial protective feeling. People love it here and they want it to stay for the most part the same. They want the big gorgeous views unobstructed by nothing but the next mountain range, they want the quaint downtowns of Asheville, Hendersonville, and Black Mountain to stay quaint, charming, and independent, and not least of all they want the loud hustle-bustle of the big city they left behind to be exchanged for the slower pace of the mountains… or at least the dull roar of a mountain city like Asheville.
There are still some people out there who associate Realtors with development and by development I mean any and all development. Some of those people are Realtors. I think this approach to business here in the hills of North Carolina is misplaced. People are drawn to Asheville because of the quality of life here. Many of the restaurants here are the kind you remember and miss wherever you go. And many of the homes, whether arts & craft style, green built, or log cabin in the woods, are the kind of homes people dream about. I love it here, and I can say that myself, and most of my associates are the kind of Realtors who do not want all the business, just the good business.
