According to an article in this week's North Georgia News, Lake Nottely reached a level of 1,768 feet at midnight on March 7, a level that it normally wouldn't reach until at least mid-April under normal conditions. The top of the gates at Nottely Dam is 1780 feet. The reason for the rapid rise in water levels ids due to a mechanical problem with a broken generator that is used to draw down water. TVA (Tennessee Valley Authority) is currently using a smaller generator until the large one is repaired. Additional information can be obtained by viewing the article at www.nganews.com.
Summer is just around the corner, so higher water levels should make for a gorgeous and full lake just in time for boating season!
