RANT: The Point Summary Pages Are Killing Me...

By
Services for Real Estate Pros with Tann Starr & Associates, Inc.

When people call my cellphone about a previous post that I've written I used to be able to go to the point summary page and simply scroll down to the year and month or find the title link and send out the information.

Now I can't find a bloody thing because someone in AR decided to turn my one lovely long beautiful sheet into short friggin' "click for the next page" pages

I am now in point summary page HELL!!!!!! (LOL)

I still love you guys but I thought you should know that you've killed my productivity. I have over 199 pages I must now click through to get to something I can't remember if I wrote it in 2011, 2009 or 2008.

That's not funny...

What used to take less than a minute to do is now going to take me at least an hour (or more). I used to not have to remember the month and year I wrote something. I used to be able to simply scroll through the title list and click a link...

This is time consuming... I WANT TO BE HAPPY AND LAZY (LOL). I've written over a thousand posts on AR... I've got a music encyclopedia tracking me and other biographies going up in places I didn't expect to ever see me being featured in.

I know it's not going to happen but I really, really want my one page scroll summary back so when I have to send people quick links to a collection of thoughts (like the Paralegal 101 Tenant Landlord series of writings) or explain who is working with me on a project so they can be credited professionally (here's an example of that) I do not want to have to give up in frustration and say I can't immediately help a caller (e.g. editor and/or reporter) because I can't find my own friggin' work for them to link back to...

Did you know that ActiveRain is being used as a source of authority regarding my music and art career? It's a direct source from the artist so they quote the factual and disgard the rest (unless the trivia is entertaining - LOL). They hold it in the same esteem as Ward Nasse Gallery (41 years at the same location representing me since the late 1990's) and realize that I usually tell you guys what I'm creating before I even tell Tunecore and BMI (LOL). Anyone can follow the creative process here and figure out who to call for additional information because I've been lunching in public with my friends and sharing dinner moments as well (LOL).

Gotta go. I have to find all my Jessica Rebecca Klein posts because chicka is going in the music encyclopedia along with my brother. They got hubby (LOL).

SoundUnwound is a joint venture of the Internet Movie Database and Amazon.com so they verify every factual detail and may soon trump Wikipedia as the authority on recording artist information because SoundUwsound will categorize every performer on Amazon.

There are over 13 million MP3s on Amazon...

Imagine the sheer volume of data entry on this project regarding all the performers who created that music...

Imagine the dedication of the editors committed to seeing it through...

Now imagine my frustration at not being able to find all my music links when editors/reporters are checking up on their sources. They are always surprised when I answer my own cell phone and I am always amused that they expect to chat with my publicist and secretary.

Would that be Mr. Stephen or Mr. Noah? Hmm... I'll have to ask the little minions if they want to learn a new job (LOL). ;-)

Have you considered exporting all your blog posts to a simple text file? Then you can easily search for text...

Or use the Google search feature:

Search within a specific website (site:)
Google allows you to specify that your search results must come from a given website. For example, the query

  • [ iraq site:nytimes.com ] will return pages about Iraq but only from nytimes.com. The simpler queries [ iraq nytimes.com ] or [ iraq New York Times ] will usually be just as good, though they might return results from other sites that mention the New York Times. You can also specify a whole class of sites, for example [ iraq site:.gov ] will return results only from a .gov domain and [ iraq site:.iq ] will return results only from Iraqi sites.

There is a way to index your blogs.. it's the keyword section of the blog.  This doesn't help you for the previous 200 unfortunately.  I read Tim Bradley's comment above and REALLY like his suggestion and think that may be the easiest thing to do.

David, if you tried to key word my blog life you'd get a headache (LOL). I spoof too much so it's not effective. Stephen has nine nick names. If you don't know them all you will miss the specific page if I didn't say Blur Minion in the body. ;-)

Tim, a biography is fascinating because each writer only wants certain facts to spin the tale. The music editor doesn't care about my photography but the art editor wants every creative tid bit. The news editor wants to know more about the Blur Minion trying to toast our cell phones (that's a very old post I have to find) as well as my new book coming out.

None of these editors give a hoot about real estate or my interest in it. They only care about the parts of my blog life that fits their professional calling.

My two cents in this area Carolyn, is using Active Rain SEARCH with a few keywords you would think it would zero in on some subject on your OWN post. Not so, I have found. Someone should test their own tools for how good they are cause SEARCH is pretty weak here.

Gary, I tried to search with unique and generic phrases I habitually use (like saying "that whomps" - LOL) but it's really difficult to pull the articles I need. I don't always refer to people by their full names. I usually will say my gal pal Jess, Jessica, Jeka... Google can't help me with that. Jeka is a term of endearment nick name that will pull up 1.5 million surnames (LOL). I want my scroll page back. I miss it... It was effective and easy to use. I like instant gratification. ;-)

I had to put "Tann Starr" and "toaster" in quotes in the Google box to pull up 223 results to find this post:

November 23, 2008... I clicked a crap load of links and was nowhere near this date (sigh). Fun post (LOL). Very entertaining trivia about living with the learning disabled.

People, here's a challenge: Read the post and tell me what your le Googkey words would have been to find it. I was using a lot of combinations before I decided to just use those two words that pulled it up out of over two hundred choices. ;-)

Hi C - I noticed this issue as soon as AR implemented it in an attempt to fix some of their slowness problems.  It would be much better if they reduced the size of the graphics / photos to minimize bandwidth usage and stop pushing "HD" photos.  I agree with you completely.  It would be a simple fix to go back to the full page of points or statistics (which lists all of the posts).  Alternatively, if they don't want to always display the entire history, then have a link to allow the few of us who are interested to click to the full history.
