Glover Brook Winter Hike - March 2011 in the White Mountains of NH.

I try to get outside Sunday after work...as the days get longer I get more ambitious. I know there is still a ton of snow in the woods, but I'm drawn to Glover brook -for a look every season. A Fall Shot below.

It really is a pretty hike in the fall...After over 100 inches of snow this winter and temps still in the 30's we have a lot of snow in the hemlock covered shadows of Glover Brook. I strapped on the snow shoes with spikes for this icy hike along the brook.

Here is a short narrative of the ice , snow and rushing water along today's hike.

Enjoy the sights and sounds of Glover Brook -March 2011

Steve - Beautiful I love the sound of water over the rocks .....  small brooks and streams can become raging torrents at this time of year ..... a time to remind our children of the dangers of swollen rivers and streams

Kathy, the ice and snow gives you some idea of how cold this brook would be if you fell in...I was wearing snowshoes with ice spikes and it was still a bit concerning.

The video wouldn't load for me on youtube.  I'll try again from the office in the morning.  My home internet sometimes has "issues".  The photos are lovely.  Of course it was 88 here yesterday and I'm lovin' it.

Ah, they both worked this time.  WOW there is still SO much snow.  How warm does the brook get in summer.  There's an area of N. Georgia where we used to go tubing in summer and the water is always still cold no matter how warm it is.

Tammy, the locals use this as a hidden swimming hole, but a girl from Georgia would think it was never warm enough. We are expecting afresh foot of so today and snow every day this week.

Steve,

I never heard of Glover Brook before. It wasn't on the campers Trippers list at Wyonegonic Camps or Winona's that I know of when I live there. I wonder if the Directors even knew about this secret place. What a beautiful spot! If I get back that way, I'd love to hike it!

What a beautiful place to be!

Patricia

Patricia... The Brook Flows out of Elbow pond, and the hike brings you up past Mount Ciley, it's not on any hikers guide and you have to be a local to know where it is.

Here is one of my Favorite shots taken in the fall, before we got all that snow.
